I went with Ortio again. I understand Gillies has potential to be a starting NHL goalie but due to the goaltending position being so unpredictable I cannot pick an NCAA goalie over one who dominated the AHL and showed promise for the Flames.
This vote definitely needs a run off. It would probably end up 50/50 though. At the very least Ortio and Gillies should be tied for 9th and we can move on to round 11.
It's been decided (well sort of..30%), so I'll let it go. But I wanted to put my thoughts in there first.
There are probably 29 GMs out there that see more value in scooping up Gillies and Ortio over Reinhart. Perhaps I personally underrate him but watching him up here with the club he didn't look like a guy I'd put in the company of the 1st rounders ranked just ahead of him. Don't see any top end skill, just a guy who could be a smart, tough nosed 3rd liner, but I'd never place those kinds of guys ahead of our future in goal. Do any believe he's stepped up his game to the point where his ceilling/projection can be reconsidered? From what I've seen he's a surer thing now, but nothing more than he was going to be before. Anyways, going to leave it at that.
We essentially traded Laurent Brossoit for Smid. Surely Reinhart is worth as much as a #4 D-man?
(I know Ortio stock has risen a lot and Gillies was ranked 4th last year, but we were pretty high on Brossoit at one time too)

Well I think Brossoit's value was the highest to EDM because they'd watched so much of him. But you aren't factoring in that Horak was equally as valuable in the deal IMO.
I think Ortio and Gillies are both worth more right now than Brossoit has ever been worth but it's still hard to make any definitive statements about their worth. I suspect both are worth a 2nd rounder. I'm not sure Reinhart is worth a 2nd rounder.

Also..post above, you call it "whining" when it's hardly that. I'm calling it as it is. All but Wotherspoon have been forwards thus far, hence the 'hard on'. If you can't handle a little debate then why are you on here in the first place? If we all just agreed with each other there'd be no use for a ####ing forum. At least I'm attempting to make these poll threads interesting. Which leads me to believe that you're the one whining, since you can't get with the program, and instead are taking offence for others since I don't agree with them, when most of them don't give a damn, and if anything, probably enjoy the discussion.
Your posts don't really illicit discussion though, do they? Trying to make others feel 'stupid' for not agreeing with you or belittling them is only going to result in getting attacked. You aren't creating discussion, you are just creating arguments. There is a big difference.

Horak was likely a more valuable part of the deal but neither came close to the real value in that trade - cap space. Oilers needed to unload Smid to sign Bryzgalov and not many teams had the cap space and the need for a defenseman at the time.
I had to go with Jankowski. Probably has the most potential out of any one left though he's unlikely to reach it, perhaps he will at the very least develop into a quality 3rd line center. Almost went with Gillies, Ortio or McDonald but I had a hard time picking one and I feel Jankowski is just as likely to play in the NHL as any of them, in some capacity. Next up for me is the goalies and Ferland and in no particular order. Seiloff will closely follow those 4, would've been more in the mix if not for his missing the whole year.
Just keep it like last year; when 2 players are in a dead heat just name them both to the next 2 spots and move on. Otherwise you're wasting everyone's time by doing a run-off poll or asking them simply to conduct the next round of voting.
5 votes separate it right now. I say we name whoever leads 9th and the other 10th. It's not like we're electing anyone into office or anything.

The Jankowski voters have a sizable number. Wouldn't mind a runoff vote between Gillies and Ortio just to see how those voting for Jankowski decide. Are they high on the NCAA and go with Gillies or seen enough of him to go with Ortio?
^ I'm new to this forum and loving it but I suspect that discussing the minutiae of the 26th place hockey team in July may be the dictionary definition of 'wasting time'.
I argued against a run-off last round but maybe a two player run off when they are this close is a good idea.

Even just call it a tie if it is within a percent.

Disagree. I'd like to see who the forum considers our top goaltending prospect, as opposed to "they are both pretty good"
For later rounds ties would be fine
