Default Digitizing photos

I'm looking at having a bunch of old 35mm pics (mostly prints, potentially some negatives) transferred into jpgs.

Wondering if anyone has experience with places that offer this service. I've noticed Blacks does it, but it looks like it's an automated service which I'm a little leery of. It's a retirement gift so I'm more concerned about quality than speed or price.

Thanks to anyone with input.

Thanks, but I should have prefaced the OP with the fact that I have no desire to scan them all and touch them up myself.

Why not do a sample of the pictures, and if the results are acceptable to you, then you can do the rest?

OR, you could categorize the photos into time periods/negatives vs prints and do them in batches at Blacks? Then you could spend the time to review the results?
