A couple long time Newcastle fans were among the victims of the Malaysian Airlines attack. They were traveling to see a friendly match and have been following the team on away matches for 50 years.

Man U made a mistake by signing Shaw to 30mil. Although I like the Herrera transfer. Looking forward to the US road trip. First up, LA Galaxy.

care to elaborate? Already one of the best left backs in the league, youngest player at the world cup, tons of talent ... buying him was a no brainer. The fee (which was 27m btw) is a lot of money, but if you compare that to Lallana, Borini and McCormack, it's not bad at all.

I believe in the Jays.

Those are very strange comparisons.
It's going to be a few years before this deal can really be judged, and he should be compared to other LBs who are on the move like Davies or Moreno. Those two will move for a lot less money, so Shaw will need to be better then them to make it a good deal.

I just meant I'd rather pay a lot of cash for a talented 18-year-old (who plays a position where generally are less great players available than in other areas) than for any of those three I mentioned.
Davies and Moreno are 2-3 years older than Shaw, yet Shaw has already played more games at the top level. Davies and Moreno are good, but Shaw's ceiling is a lot higher and I'd say he's already better than either of those.

I've mentioned it before, but the only thing that really concerns me about the Shaw deal is his wages. I don't know what the final numbers ended up being, but 100,000 per week was what the rumours were saying. That's a lot of cash for a young player. How much will he be making in 5-7 years if he does end up being a quality player?
Maybe I'm just being overly concerned because that's an issue that would affect Liverpool, but not so much for United.

Full Story On Arsenal's Carvalho Bid, 30m Could Actually Be Accepted
20 July 2014
Sport Witness Football
Sporting Lisbon wanted William Carvalho to be one of the stars of the World Cup in Brazil and for that to lead to a queue of clubs ready to pay his buyout clause of 45m. That didn't happen, Carvalho wasn't a stand-out star in a poor Portuguese team, the lofty 45m was looking a more inflated figure than ever.
[...]
The Portuguese newspaper explain, in the full version of their article which isn't on their website, that Sporting were happy to open negotiations with Arsenal at 30m. They make it sound like a deal could be done for around that figure and that Sporting have stopped clinging to the buyout clause of 45m so much.
The Problem was Arsenal's wish to pay the amount in two lots and that's what made Sporting say a deal wasn't happening. The Portuguese club only own 60% of Carvalho, say O Jogo, with the other 40% being owned by the Sporting Portugal Fund. Third party ownership is very common in Portugal and can sometimes make transfers difficult.

Telegraph saying Siggy +5m for Ben Davies and Vorm should be finalized today or tomorrow
think it's a good deal for both sides, Sigurdsson needs a team to be built around his talent and needs to play centrally which was never going to happen at Spurs, he should score 10-15 goals for Swansea though
Really like Davies, all his stats from last year he matches up really well with Shaw, and LB was by far the biggest weakness last year
Vorm a good backup keeper for the cups

ya can't believe he slipped my mind
I think Rodriguez might stay this summer just because of the injury, but in the winter if he shows he's fit he will get targeted

Yes and no. Tough for the fans, but this is the club's niche. Develop good youngsters and sell them to remain viable.

Neville, Vidic, Ferdinand, & Evra ... All gone
Spiteful me, is happy that Conte left them, considering all the players that they've poached off United of late.

Neville?
another likeable club hero gone I'll miss the little fella. Always played his heart out and gave it his all, and it certainly seemed that he really loved the club. With Shaw coming in and probably playing the majority of the games, I understand him looking for club where he gets to play every week.
January 2006 ... probably one of Fergusons finest months in terms of transfers. Bringing in both Vidic and Evra was so crucial for the success of the club in the following years. Only fitting that they are leaving at the same time now as well ... such a shame.
Alex Shaw @AlexShawESPN
Juventus:
- Got Paul Pogba for peanuts
- Signed Patrice Evra for barely £2m
United are owed a favour or two.

Drogba may be coming back to Chelsea on a 1 year deal. Speculation is that this will be to transition from player to coach, and if Lukaku is staying at Chelsea to backup Costa and Torres, this would be a great way for Drogba to mentor Lukaku and help take his game to the next level.

Manchester UnitedVerified account @ManUtd
Patrice Evra became an almost ever-present for #mufc, featuring in 81.8% of all United fixtures in the past seven seasons.
That is impressive. Wish him nothing but the best. A heart and soul player. Going to leave a huge gap both on and off the pitch.

How does Alex Shaw miss Vidic?
Why the confusion with Neville? He was part of our best backline ever.
And it's gone now.

Vidic went to Inter, not Juve.
And with Neville, it's just that he retired 3 and a half years ago, so I found it funny to see his name alongside those who left the club just recently.
Rio Ferdinand ✔ @rioferdy5
The old guard has gone....myself, Vidic & Evra...great times together....the young lads are ready, I believe they will now blossom #mufc
