I didn't realize so many CP posters lived in Edmonton. Thoughts and prayers as I will definitely be more sympathetic towards some of you in the future.

Huh? What does this mean?

And I'm cooled off. Edmonton vs Calgary is just hilarious here.

Things I've learned from this thread:
1) So many people on CP live in or around Edmonton (the souls of the damned)
2) The best justification to move there is festivals & river valley
3) Edmonton is still no good

To conclude:
Stampede beats klondikeEXcapital days
Flames/Stamps better then Oilers/Eskimos
Jeans/cowboy hats beat sweatpants/mullets

Unfortunately, that is a highly debateable statement. However, Calgarians only wear jeans and cowboy hats for two weeks. Edmontonians wear sweatpants and mullets year round.

I do it for the job, cheaper house prices, lack of traffic and river valley.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I will be in Edmonton next Thursday and was wondering what the parking situation is for the Royal Alberta Museum? Will likely be visiting it on Thursday or Friday during the day, is there spots available around there, and what would the price be? Hopefully the parking near there is not like Calgary's core.

Lack of Traffic? How come every time I drive through it is so bad? Maybe people dont want to drive on the speedbump, pothole, nightmares they call roads?

If I wanted to live by a river valley as a major feature, I'd probably choose Lethbridge.

I'll take my higher price of living to not deal with a colder winter and Oiler propoganda thank you.

Mark my words, one days we will put up a 700 foot wall in Red Deer and keep all you wildings in the North.

My wife is from Sherwood Park, I'm from Calgary. We compromised and wound up in Edmonton.

She's worth it though, and there are lots of good neighbourhoods and people in Edmonton. For instance, we've met some great people in our neighbourhood... our next door neighbours are from Montreal, down the street are my football buddies, two from Calgary and one from Manitoba.

Maybe that should be Edmonton's new slogan... "Edmonton, we're not all from here" There are too many Rider fans for my taste, but thankfully, Canuck fans are few and far betweeen.

Anyway, GP_Matt, send me a pm if you want some input on neighbourhoods.

Nice to see how many of us are stuck in Edmonton... maybe we should set up some sort of support group.

Distance wise that is no a compromise......Lacombe/Dead Rear is more equidistant.

Absolutely. Of the cities I've lived in, Montreal is by far the worst and is only getting worse year to year. Waiting 2 hours in traffic is very common in construction season on certain roadways. Of course, being an island, there are only so many alternate routes one can use as well.

Couldn't imagine dealing with Toronto traffic on a daily basis. Traffic in Calgary gets congested at time, but I've never found it unbearable like the eastern cities.

Calgary traffic sucks, but its relatively organized.

Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver all have horrendous traffic.

I maintain that commuting to work is among everyone's top 3 stress-inducers and is a significant factor in deciding where to live.

So, whoever the moron is who put a stop-light in that traffic circle in Edmonton, he should be taken out back and tortured before hes slowly killed.

^^^ lack of cloverleafs off major roadways is something I can't comprehend either. They sure like their stop lights in Edmonton.

Living in Edmonton and having season tickets sounds rough - you'll have to buy 29 NHL team jerseys just to go to the games and not be a greaser.

On the subject of traffic, I gotta say that the traffic in Edmonton is not even worth mentioning. I've stayed at the Four Points south of Gateway and driven daily to a customer that was situated at Stony Plain and Henday. And I didn't take Henday to get there, I took Whitemud. It was fine. As someone who routinely drives in Calgary, Vancouver, Montréal (just got back from there actually), Toronto/Mississauga, Victoria, and Edmonton, Edmonton doesn't even belong in the list.

Cloverleafs are efficient but expensive. Traffic lights are cheap like borscht.

No kidding. 41 Edmonton Oilers jerseys per year so that you can throw one on the ice per game.

Assuming you're a 1%er and buy $300 authentic jerseys thats an additional $12,300 per year just in shame costs alone.

And if you want to spray Dallas Eakins in the face with a water bottle, well, that costs a whole lot more.

I suppose unless you catch him when hes dropping his kid off at school. Then it would be cheaper, but thats cold. Ice cold.

I understand it's expensive, but if you have the room (like Edmonton does) why not plan ahead for a growing city? Every exit off the Anthony Henday should have a cloverleaf IMO (I don't mean elevated cloverleaf, I mean on the ground, just to keep traffic moving).

The Exit for Nisku off of hwy 2 backs up onto hwy 2 every morning from the stop lights there too (dangerous). matter of time before the Henday exits are similar. Just my opinion though.
