If this guy had done this anywhere in the US, or any country where Capital Punishment was enforced, and he had been deemed mentally competent, would anyone on this board be defending his right to live, or the inhumanity of him payng for his crime with his life? I hope not. People like this, and crimes like this, in my personal opinion, are the very reason we should have capital punishment in Canada. Yes capital punishment has its flaws, wrongful convictions... etc. But when someone is cutting up a body, and eating it, in front of 30 some odd people, I believe you have sufficient evidence for a conviction.

He's schizophrenic, so, no, it shouldn't surprise you, because that's already been found to be the case.

My comment was in response to pylon asking what use was he to anyone, and how much would his uselessness cost the tax payers. It's not off-base if you're basing his execution off of his usefulness to society as opposed to the crimes he committed.

I don't care if he's schizophrenic. He still did what he did. Not all schizophrenics are cannibals. Sometimes things are so broken they aren't worth fixing, and that is how I feel about the guy. I am entitled to my opinion, as are you. If you feel sorry for him, and hope he gets all better, you have that right. I happen to feel sorry for the family of the victim. His actions only affected himself from his side, where as an entire family has to relive the vision of what this guy did for the rest of their lives.

(A) That makes the assumption you can't feel sorry for both parties. The man clearly was/is insane. I do feel sorry for someone who has done horrible horrible things when he was not in control of his faculties.

tragic news, people sometimes forget what first responders often have to deal with and sometimes never ever get over.

I can't say that he's found any peace because I just don't know. But I feel for his family and hope that they get the help that they need and eventually realize that this wasn't their fault.

I'm not sure what your getting at here. Killing Li or putting him in jail for life wouldn't have prevented this guy's suicide.

I saw that, but I think that might be over-simplifying his PTSD. I took that statement to mean that the press he was getting was what gave him the flashbacks (because he started thinking about it) as opposed to the fact that Li was "free". I think you could just easily blame the media.

And just imagine, there are 40 some odd other people out there, carrying around this vision. Li has victimized so many people, and will continue victimizing them for the remainder of their lives. It just makes me sick to my stomach.
