I can't even begin to imagine what those parents are going through. What a complete tragedy. Thoughts and prayers to the parents and rest in peace to the grandparents and child. I know I'll be hugging my kids a little tighter for the next few days.

I don't think they'll reveal it now. All will be revealed in the criminal case.

I am sure over the next weeks months and years, all the rubberneckers will get all the gruesome details of what happened. Right now, none of that matters. None of that changes the loss of these three people, and most heart wrenchingly, a happy, innocent child, with nothing but a pure soul.
I am not religious, but it is at times like this, I sometimes wish I was. Then I could say a prayer, and have the belief and conviction that there truly is a better place for those victimized, and a cruel, vengeful place for those that commit heinous acts such as these.
These are the times I hope those that believe are right, and I am wrong.
RIP to all involved, especially Nathan.
And heartfelt condolences to the family. If there is a better place, Nathan will be there.

No one should question the judgement of having grandparents have your child over for a sleepover.
I think you can question the judgement of an individual if he went into business with a man who was a fugitive for a number of years and was convicted of manufacturing drugs.
No one knows the whole story.
What would compel a man to kill 3 people - especially a young child?

Everyone including you needs to drop this and move on. This is the time for grieving, for prayers if so inclined and for support, not pissing contests. Leave it be.

Garland officially charged with the Liknes/O'Brien murders in the past half hour.
As an aside, Nancy Hixt sucks.

Thank god they arrested him before he could plan another escape. He's not stupid, he likely knew they were going to find something to link him to the case so glad the evidence came back when it did.
I just can't wrap my head around how someone can hurt a child. I hope he is brought to justice and he enjoys a lifetime in prison. What a true scum bag.
I hope the Liknes and O'Brien family can find closure and peace. You not only lose your son but for the mother she also lost her parents. I can't even begin to imagine the hardship they are going through. Hope they know Calgarians are here to support them at every turn.

Truly heartbreaking to hear the news today from the press conference.
I can't imagine how hard today has been for the O'Brien family. Hard to know what to say in regards to moments like these. I just hope that they are surrounded by all the people that they love and that love them because they are going to need all the support they can get.
I also just want to say that this has obviously been a horrible story however the police work has been incredible. The amount of hard work they have put into this is truly commendable, and I know it is their duty to do this, but I just feel that they really have put in a remarkable job so far. You do something like this and justice will eventually get you.

That seems obvious enough to us normal folks. But keep in mind this guy was charged with 1st degree murder of the first grandparents (meaning it was pre-meditated). If you have it in you to show up somewhere planning to kill two people, it's not that big a surprise you'd take out some kid along the way. I wouldn't expect compassion from someone with that sort of plan.

What kind of world do we live in when you get questioned for leaving grandbabies at home with grandparents.

Speculation at best, but rumors of sour business dealings between the suspect and the Grandfather would be my guess.

I think its been confirmed that the suspect (whose sister is married to a Liknes) was involved in some business deals with Alvin.
I'm not sure if those deals are also separate from the Energy company that Alvin had that went tits up recently.

I've heard a few speculations and rumors about what occurred from third parties, but I will not discuss any of it here out of respect for the family and those involved, and the fact that it may not be true. Needless to say, if any of them have a shred of truth, I'm mortified and devastated. My wife couldn't sleep last night because of it.
