Your opinion is based on nothing other than what appears to be an attempt to defend Feaster for who knows what reason. All actual evidence (the rule itself and what the NHL came out and said afterwards) points towards us losing both O'Reilly and Monohan. Nothing that happened following that situation would lead us to believe the Flames would receive special treatment because Feaster messed up royally.

Don't mean to continue with the derailment (but it is July, so what the heck), but I do agree with Roof-Daddy on this one. Not to defend Feaster, but I don't recall any discussion that an offer sheet wouldn't be effective, at the time ROR was sitting out. Only afterwards did the story make the rounds that he then would need to go on waivers. Given the ambiguity of the situation, I can't see it going down that the Flames (or the other reported pursuers) would lose the picks and the player. Again, just opinion.
I would be interested in seeing any posts or published stories questioning whether ROR would go on waivers before the offer was made.

Bit different situation but when Detroit signed Nabokov he had to first go through waivers because he had played in the KHL. Obviously teams know they have to look into the specifics when making these types of transactions. Feaster even said they looked into it they just had a different interpretation of the rule. If he would have called the NHL they would have clarified the rule just like they did after he made the offer sheet. Not a bad idea with a fresh CBA. At the end of the day it was his own incompetence that lead to the situation.

You're entire post was voided due to "Monohan". Where's your self respect man.

1) Yes, the MOU was ambiguous - certainly ambiguous enough that it would have resulted in meetings and discussions, etc and not just a unilateral, off the cuff ruling from the #2 guy.

2) No way, IMO that they would ever actually enforce such a ruling - especially one generated from the wording of a quickly drafted MOU - that so severely punished one team and unfairly awarded another (Columbus in this case). Far more likely, and more politically prudent, to simply cancel and negate the whole transaction.

3) the whole situation could have been clarified with a 5 minute phone call from a competent GM.

All the rest is just hope that we weren't going to get bent over the table.

Exactly Flames fans need to focus on the obvious. Iginla was a great player and a great leader. The fantastic group that he led in his last 3 years of stellar leadership deserved to have the best team possible. Feaster may have screwed up, but he screwed up for Iggy we should all remember that and continue to cheer for Iginla as he tries again for a Stanley Cup.

Iggy has never been considered fast, and he's probably lost a step (speed wise) in the last few seasons.
How is he going to keep up with Mackinnon, who is probably one of the fastest player in the NHL, and Landeskog, who is a pretty quick skater as well.

By not skating back to the defensive zone, should save him a lot of ice and should be hitting the offensive zone at the same time

The whole point is the wording was not strict in the temporary CBA, therefore you had a chance to take advantage of unclear language in the CBA, and by clarifying it you would close a loophole and it is never a possibility

Setting up on the left side hash-marks on the PP and taking one timers? Dude can still shoot with the best of 'em.

I would think the whole point would be you should clarify instead of gambling with a potentially HUGE loss. Just because Feaster thought he was smarter than everyone, doesn't mean he was.
