No joke. Pretty sure Slava and I go to the same Sobeys. Constantly a person trying to get you to sign up for something right on your way in by the produce, and then when you leave, there's always a charity or an organization (hockey team? Girl Guides? Firefighters?), trying to sell you something.

Pure curiosity, what do believe is a higher standard in outlet options in AB and for what reason(s)? I've shopped pretty much everywhere and truly and honestly cannot find a better option.

I know this was not aimed at me, but the produce at Superstore is below par compared to the other 3 (Co-Op, Safeway, Sobey's). They often source produce from shipments that have been turned down by the other three chains.

It is hit or miss, although this summer I have found the produce (so far) at Superstore to be superior to what I have been buying at Sobeys.

For sure, and that's respectable. I've gotten bad apples (heh) everywhere I've shopped, but the produce at Superstore has never been bad enough to force me to shop elsewhere.

Good Lord, what a ridiculous response.
I am what is called a "foodie". I also grow most of my own vegetables in my organic garden in the summer. I would wager I know more about fresh fruit and vegetables than you ever knew.
I never once proclaimed to be a Superstore shopper only. In fact, I have gone out of my way to say that I am not loyal to any grocery store. I did however say that I have noticed a huge improvement in Superstore in the last couple of years and I stand by that statement.
I shop for specific items at each of the grocery stores I visit. That basically boils down to the fact that I prefer one store's brand over another store's brand for some items or one of the stores that I shop at does not carry a specific item that I need to purchase.

I was in the Fairmount Sobey's (one of the locations set to close) on Tuesday, and I was accosted by a woman from BMO trying to sell me something. I shut her down before she could finish a sentence. I hope they don't start pulling that crap in Safeway because I won't be back if they do.

When I was a poor university student, and every dollar counted, I would go to Superstore for a few things, like soup, macaroni, etc. Basically anything that wasn't a store brand was bought at Superstore, as I found it cheaper. I'd then got to Safeway for meat, produce and dairy. Yes, it cost more, but it was worth it.
Now that I'm out of college, and earn a decent wage, I never go to Superstore. I have also stopped going to Safeway as much, as I feel their meat has gone severely downhill in quality. I prefer going to a few different butchers, but when I don't have time I choose Save on Foods. Their meat and poultry selection is really tasty, but the seafood is hit and miss. I still like Safeway's milk and cheese, and their produce is still good, but I will not step foot in Superstore ever again. I go to Costco every now and then, but because I don't have a family, it's tough to buy the huge portions.

CALGARY- Following its purchase of Safeway stores, the Sobeys grocery chain is also overhauling its rewards program in select markets.
Starting in the fall, Sobeys will phase out the Club Sobeys card and replace it with Air Miles. Currently, many Safeway stores use the popular Air Miles program.

This is great, as the current Sobeys "reward" program is a joke.

We're pretty dedicated Safeway shoppers for the AM's, but we have a Sobeys close by that we use to run for a few items here and there. I've said for years it's too bad that this Sobeys wasn't a Safeway or if Sobeys would just do Air Miles. Now Sobeys is gonna offer AM, but our Sobeys is closing....sighhh.
I'm curious to see what's going to happen to the closed stores, imagine they'll just be sold off?

The Sobey's across the street from my house is closing down, it was almost sad to go in there and see almost all of the shelves empty. I usually shop at safeways but when I just need to grad a few things it was convienient. I would also argue that their deli/hotfoods selection was way better.

Spud.ca does home delivery, and so does sunterra market.

I can't imagine that there are many Superstore shoppers that truly like the store. Most shoppers tolerate it because it is for the most part cheaper than the other supermarkets. My wife hates it but shops there because it's closer to us and cheaper. I hate it and usually go to Safeway if I have to do shopping for the week's groceries. I will say there are a few President's Choice products that are pretty good but as has been said their meats and produce are below par and the overall experience is poor.
The US really does do grocery stores much, much better than Canada.

I never shop at Superstore. They don't have the level of savings making it worth it to step into that arena.

This is the one thing I hate most about the Sobey's in Royal Oak. I've stopped going there on the weekend because of all the charities barking at you for money.
