Girlfriend's LMO expires September. What should we do?

We hired our current nanny just over a year ago. We did not require an LMO for her because she was already in the country.
I'd look into whether or not what is required is a work permit. If she has that she can work at any job that will hire her. She should apply for Landed Immigrants status asap.

Sounds like her employer was not being honest with her about the need for an LMO.

I'm going to try and help her get a care-giving job, and to apply for a visitor visa, and then see if I can locate a good immigration lawyer.

She knew about the need to apply for an extension to her LMO to stay here, as hers is valid until September. Her employer just seemingly dicked her around since last fall, when she first brought up the need for an extension.

Her first priority should be applying for that visitor visa. While that visa is being worked out or validated, she should then use that time to find a company that is willign to sponsor her and go through the steps of getting a LMIA. That way, if things are prolonged with the sponsorship and LMIA, she would still be legally entitled to stay in Canada under a visitor visa

BTW, like any lawyer, immigration lawyers are also fairly pricey

Asking around within her community might be a better cost effective resource than going to a lawyer. She might want to explore that before the lawyer.

But then again, once her fellow fillipino finds out she`s dating a Canadian, Their first intuitive answer would be “why wont you get married“

She is in the final stages of divorce in her country. Her ex apparently has stalled since she came to Canada, but it's almost complete.

I know Winnipeg has a massive Philippine population (60,000), and many are 2nd or 3rd generation Canadians. They have their own areas of Winnipeg, community/cultural centre, doctors, lawyers, travel agents, etc.). Not so sure about Calgary or Edmonton, but I will have to look into it.
