Default Bear Spotted in Tuscany

Quote:
A woman who lives near Tuscany is warning people in the northwest community to be on the look out for a bear this morning.

Janelle Donaldson called News Talk 770 from her home in Blue Ridge Mountain Estates to tell us she was sitting in her kitchen this morning when she saw the adult bear walk through her yard. The large bear appears to be a grizzly. Janelle says she wanted people to be aware in case they’re outside this morning with their kids or animals.

Best way to tell on an adult bear is the ears. A black bear's ears will be more on the top of his head. A grizzly will have ears further down the side of the head.

The ears can look to be in similar locations on young bears though.

The hump is also a dead giveaway.

A black bear walked into the Rocky Hospital a few years ago as well. The doors open automatically and when the bear activated the door, he walked right in.

Erin Slobodian

A black bear, looking to fatten-up ahead of hibernation, followed his nose into the Rockyview General Hospital. Darcy Whiteside with Alberta Sustainable Resources tells 660News that he doubts the bear was there 'for the hospital food!'

At around 11pm Sunday, the bear stepped on the automatic door opening at the entrance to the hospital and when the door swung open, strolled inside. That's when a security guard spotted him and chased him outside and up a tree.

The bear waited in the branches until Fish and Wildlife officers showed up and tranquilized him. He has since been released back into the wild.

Whiteside says the reason there has been so many sightings in the area is because the city is expanding. He says it's not so much that the bears are wandering into urban areas, but rather that the city is moving into the wild.

Let me preface this by saying I know how crazy it sounds, but if there is one animal in the world I wish I could domesticate and keep as a pet, I think it would be a bear.

Totally... I secretly think bears are friendly and just misunderstood.

I'm basically a darwin story waiting to be written.

As long as you don't get between them and their kill/cubs maybe. Grizzly's are fascinating.

My lifelong ambition is to retire at 50, move into a remote cabin somewhere in Northern BC, live off the land, and hang out with my pet bear I'll name Chompy.
