They specifically said that numbers would not be retired. I'm not sure why you thought they would be.

I wonder if Gaudreau will get his #13 IF he goes to the AHL.

Forever a Flame is an embarrassment Ken King. Never should have went down that road.
FOF is about honouring the player. And if not for it, there never would have been a ceremony for Nieuwendyk because his number was never going to be retired.

9, 12, 14, 30, however, are retired. With or without a ceremony.

I would guess 34 is as well.

If the rumors of Iginla to Vancouver had bore out, the significance of #12 would be dead to me.

He'd have to ask McGrattan for permission.

Didn't McElhinney wear #1 when he was Kipper's backup?

I honestly don't get the whole under 30 mantra.

Who cares? If the player likes a number, and the fans like it..why not.

Burke cares.
It's such a minor and insignificant part of our interaction with the team as fans that I don't see why anyone outside of the team cares what player wears what number. Doesn't it make sense to just let the team make numbers available however it pleases?

Would Iginla's popularity be different if he was #72 instead of #12? If Fleury was #84 instead of #14? No. So why should any of us care what arbitrary method the Flames use to hand out jersey numbers? If they want to mandate rules, let them mandate them. The effect on fans is literally zero.

It's not the biggest deal. Horak was given #21 at training camp last year and was shipped to Edmonton for a bag of pucks just months later. While I would love this to mean that management is optimistic about Baertschi making the team out of camp, we know that's probably not true.

Not that I am in agreement or disagreement, but Burke stated that he wanted players to take lower numbers to show their commitment to team work. That they wear the number for the team and not themselves and was tired of the high numbers.

That's a MacInnis quote (no doubt with a little help from the organization), but I'm not sure the spirit of a 'bright young player' is embodied in Bollig.

I dislike Forever A Flame
Of the young D-men in our system, who do you think should wear #2 when they make the team?

Sieloff? Culkin? Gilmour? Kulak? Kanzig?

I think its totally cool for some of the prospects to keep their rookie camp numbers. Its not like they had a choice in it anyways.

#77 Janko will look awesome

As for Bennett, if 39 or 93 is a no go, then 19 would look perfect for a centre. I'm not sure if the Flames ever had a stud with 19?

TJ Brodie had #66 and I can recall a lot of us wanted him to keep it.

I personally wanted him to keep #66 and then get paired with Sarich.

That would've been one HELL of a backend

I agree with Burke here on the high numbers, if you're a star /exceptional player then that's fine. Otherwise you should take a lower number as it's easier for the fans as well.

It's also why I hold off on buying jerseys of new players like Sven Baertschi even, remember Roman Cervenka?

The guy from another team who needs a number change is Nathan MacKinnon as he was #29 last season and that's a goalie's number.
