Flames have another 15 M they need to spend if they are going to barely miss the playoffs

I don't think anyone is seriously predicting that we barely miss the playoffs but some said signing Hiller would just screw up our draft position negatively so it was a bad move.

I never said we'd be in playoff contention, just replying to what Vulcan said, and he was just saying what someone else said.

It still doesn't change the fact that there many, many defenseman to pick from in the 1st round.

And anyone thinking that is a problem should just quit sports.

People who want to lose deserve exactly that and nothing more.

I want people who want to win.

It's an incredibly fine line between wanting to win and simply being realistic. I would love it if the flames were drafting in the bottom half next year and therefore 'winning' but looking up and down the roster there is literally no way that's going to happen next season and quite possibly the year after that.

Hiller does exactly what he needs to for the franchise, eats up minutes in net with Ramo effectively allowing Ortio to play a full season in the AHL. If Hiller has a fantastic year its a bonus, the flames either hang on to him for the future or flip him at the deadline.

Even a fantastic year from Hiller is not going to get this team into the playoffs anymore then a great year from Ramo or Kipper the years before did. The goal is to win but its not gonna happen for a while longer.

Typical Glencross just floating back into the zone, he's not even looking at the play.

If we don't draft in the top 5 next season, I don't mind. Anything from pick 6 through 20 are usually a crap shoot if any of the players are NHL caliber players.

I don't want to be a bottom feeder, I want to see some success even if small. I do predict that this team will finished higher than they did last season, no way majority of our youngsters regress. This will be an exciting season and I am pumped. We won't make the playoffs or even fight for a spot, but we won't be oilers, sabres, panthers bad.

I hope we make the playoffs. Vancouver, Winnipeg, Nashville, Phoenix and Dallas are our competition and we at the least have a chance at beating them. If we stay healthy I don't see why we can't jump over atleast 2 or 3 of them, the Calgary lineup is filled with guys fighting just to earn a spot. Dallas would be the hard team to jump over but it's not impossible. Hopefully Gaudreau, Wolf and Arnold can bring some contributions towards that goal
