I just can't believe people care this much about a license plate.

When one is ugly as fata and is the leading choice, it's everything.

It's a war against bad taste, employing guerilla tactics to get the job done.

Maybe if there is one that is leading in spite of people here stuffing the ballot box, that is an indication that is the one that more people prefer.
You may think it's ugly, however it's clear that more people prefer that one over the one you like.

And it's my duty to convince other to vote for an alternative!
I just don't see how people can like that one the best since the majority of the plate is just a white band. I honesty think those voting option 2 just use of a real photo, but don't considered how little of the header and footer photos will actually be seen.
If the plate was a full photo, then I wouldn't oppose.

they're already whining about spending an extra $5 on it, they'd lose their minds

I wonder if the mountain in plate #2 is even in Alberta.
We get our plate design from a random person that works in the graphics department of a American chemical company. Actually shouldn't Rick Bell have praised this move, sounds like something he'd suggest if the government had spent money to commission it.
Aren't there any Alberta artists past or present that deserve some recognition?
(I actually hate plates with realistic art on them, it's like getting a coffee mug and t-shirt at the mall with your kids' picture printed on it for grandma)

If they want something nice and free then have a contest and give kudos to the winning designer. That in itself would be great advertising for a winning artist/studio.

While I agree #2 has some issues like you describe, I didn't like #1 because it seemed to much like clip art. (And has now been shown to be taken from clip art.) I also think we've seen better designs here made by CPers.
I'm torn on the white stripe; as I do like the contrast to make the numbers easier to read. I also think a full snow covered mountain would be a better choice.
My comment was really more about what we each see as being "ugly." More people think #2 looks better than #1; and that is in spite of the voting having been rigged for a while.

I'm a big fan of graphic plates if they're done well. I've collected them for years and there are some great ones. But if you've been in Montana, there's some god awful ones as well.

I actually think #3 is the best choice because it comes right from the Alberta flag, has a nice clean contemporary look and looks like something that would stand the test of time.
Unfortunately, I had to vote strategically for #1 since #2 is butt ugly. I'm also not convinced that #1was the only design to be jihaded by looking at how popular #2 is. I'm sure some out of province or out of country trolls looked at the three designs, said "Haha, #2 is brutal, let's try to get those losers in Alberta to release some ugly ass plates". I seriously can't believe that the province is choosing the plate design through an Internet popularity contest.

Do you have some examples? I'm sceptical.

I think the "general tone" would be indifference. But yes, the very small but extremely loud, minority would whine. The proper course of action is to just ignore those people while explaining the reasoning to the larger and more reasonable share of the general public.

Ya, but we did just that. We already did drafts of new plates and put it to a public vote a few years ago. Then the government didn't go forward with it anyways, so it was wasted.
Now we seem to be voting on free MSPaint'esque designs from a supplier likely bidding to supply the coating/paint for the plates. It's almost as if someone was cc'd on an e-mail from 3M with some drafts showing their paint capability, then wanted to impress the boss by saying hey... these are awesome even though I'm a lawyer and don't know anything, let's proceed.
Anybody know where the plate designs are from the first vote?
