Good Lord.
Has never played more than 50 games.
Has never won more than 20.
Has never won a playoff round.
That's ridiculous.

That's Stanley Cup champion Corey Crawford money. Two-time Cup winner Jonathan Quick makes $5.8 m. Semyon Varlomov has won the Vezina trophy.

Not a bad deal a little to long though. The Salary is about where I thought he would end up
Vancouver is currently paying 9 million for their Goalies and are paying Miller the same about for 3 years. Quicks deal is just a really good value. As a free agent miller would get this deal.
Schneider is a good goalie, He is top 10 in the leauge. Lundquist makes 8.5 mil as the top goalie.

How NOT to? They're much more qualified to write one on how to run a franchise. Tons and tons of success there under Lamoriello over the last 25 years.

Schneider was only one game over a .500 record last season but I think that's more of a team issue, his stats were quite good with a 1.97 GAA and .921 SP. Over 45 games that's pretty solid.
That being said, 42 million for 7 years is a lot of cake for a guy who still has quite a bit to prove. Who knows, maybe it'll seem like a good deal in a few years but New Jersey doesn't strike me as a team on the upswing. Somewhere between middling to declining and yet they still have a top 10 payroll in the league.

They must really believe in him, and maybe he will live up to it, but I don't see what he has done to date that justifies it.

I think the contract will be pretty fair for the first half of it, but they'll regret the term later.

Former being the operative word. Miller has had one great year in his entire career and has been mediocre outside of that. Schneider has pretty much been a picture of unadulterated excellence since breaking into the league.
I find it odd how everyone judges goalies so differently than players. Would anyone be surprised if the guy with the highest points per game over the last 4 seasons signed a $6M contract?
Yeah he's not 100% proven as a workhorse starter, but if Schneider put up those kind of numbers as a starter over 4 seasons his contract would be similar to Lundqvist's $8.5M one. If all he had to his name was one flash in the pan season I'd be inclined to be skeptical as well, but he's now had 7 years of elite play at the pro level including 4 years in the NHL. There's absolutely no reason to believe that he can't continue being a top goalie.
Now one could argue against giving goalies long term big money contracts, and I think that's a tenable argument to make. But if I was going to give one out, Schneider would be among the first I'd give it to.
