Yes and no. The truth of the matter is that I sincerely doubt that we will ever see the Salary Cap go down, it just wont increase as much.

The Hawks have done and continue to do a great job finding good talent in the draft despite not picking in prime position. So as long as they can keep doing that they'll be alright in terms of turning over their roster with cheaper young players who can provide good production when they have to lose a few guys.

Are there any concrete numbers yet in regard to what the new Rodgers TV deal will mean to the cap, notwithstanding any other factors to make it rise or fall?

True dat.
If I were their GM I would be torn between going for one more long playoff run with the supporting cast they have or re-tooling now with an eye to the future. Trading Hossa or Sharp would bring in some interesting (cheaper) pieces for their future.

The Hawks might be feeling the hurt during the last couple of years on these contracts but the players won't be too old at the end.

I believe the Rogers contract was structured so the payout to the NHL goes up every year of the deal. So that should cause the cap to go up in a more reasonable fashion instead of one huge leap the first year of the deal.

The TV deal has zero impact on the season coming up. The TV deal will have an impact on the 2015-16 season and beyond.

Wow, payday. I was predicting 9.5M each, some people thought that was too high.

Hawks will have to hope that the Cap goes up and stays up for the next 9 years or they will have major issues keeping around a supporting cast that's going to be good enough to keep the overall team cup competitive. I must say this is kind of worrysome that we are seeing 10+ million deals at a $70 million cap as agents are going to use this as the bar for solid 2-way players that chip in offence but don't finish top 10 in scoring like Teows.

Originally thought they were going to be royally screwed, I still take they are. If they trade one of Hossa or Sharp and Versteeg they will not be too bad up front, but still with some bad contracts in Bickell and Shaw to a lesser extent. Saad will be up for a huge raise. On the back end, Oduya and Rozsival are not earning their money and they will be both be coming off but they will still need to sign 3 D next year. I have said it before and still believe that Seabrook could be moved, would be a great pick up for any team though.
These two will be nearly 2x the AAV Keith is, he does have one of those old front end load contracts though.

The Canadian dollar dropping significantly would drop the cap a good amount.

The dollar dropped significantly this year and the cap still went up, just not as much as initially expected.

I think this is such a load of crap personally. These guys are the difference makers on that team, and without them the Hawks aren't winning anything. If the team is well managed they will be able to surround them with enough other guys. Let Brad Richards take the pay cut to play with legitmate star players, rather than Kane and Toews taking paycuts so Johnny Oduya can be a 4.5 million dollar a year 4-5 defenceman.
All those guys in Detroit who took hometown discounts after the 08 season....how has that worked out? I'm happy to see star players actually get paid more in line with what they're worth rather than taking less so Tuomo Ruutu's and Dennis Wideman can make 5 million.

I think the league's stars area already pretty underpaid relative to their contributions to their teams and the league as a whole.
Why should Kane and Toews leave money on the table so that guys like Erhoff and Richards can get bought out of $50 million dollar contracts?
When guys like Orpik are making 5+ a season and every third line winger is getting $4 million this offseason, we shouldn't ask the top guys to take much less then they are worth.

Hawks are going to need to keep drafting well.
They've got $58 million in cap space tied in up in 9 guys next year (Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa, Bickell, Keith, Seabrook, Hjarmlsson and Crawford)

Those who claim Kane should be making less than Toews need to watch more playoff hockey. They both deserve those numbers, and contribute differently but equally to that teams success.

Not saying the Flames should do it, but they will be targets.
