Money talks and I think if there's a women good enough for any spot in the NHL it could one day happen. It might be controversial but the owners want to make money so if there's a women in the NHL it will be because of an economic choice that she brought potential future earnings to the team.

She is awful on the CBC and hasn't been any better when I heard her on the FAN 960. Perhaps there is other places she is on where she has been better or she has improved recently but based on what I have heard from her she proves a major problem that women face in hockey now, too often they are given roles they don't deserve or don't have the ability simply because they are a women.

It is hard for them to work their way up through the ranks and if the so called top women in the game are just rocketed to the top without gaining knowledge or learning properly then that could hurt women overall in gaining the more prominent roles.

I am sure eventually a women will get a GM role but considering how often those jobs and the jobs that lead into them go to ex-elite level mens hockey players it will be tough.

0 chance a women plays a legit game in the NHL without some massive change in the game.

I bet the Womens Olympics USA and/or Canadian team can beat teams like the Oilers, Islanders and Buffalo. Haha.

As Management maybe. As players hell no. All it would take is one hit from Biggest hitters in the league or a Goon.Its a MENS SENIOR LEAGUE. They are not going to take it easy on the Woman . The world is so damn PC . Its OK to separate people in different leugues. If they let woman into men's leugues can Men then go play in Woman's leugue? After everything in life is supposed to be equal and fair.

To be fair, there is no rule or regulation that states the NHL is a men's league.

Men and women play together in other hockey leagues, so it's not like it's unheard of.

Not a chance. I watched women's Olympic hockey. National all star teams have more holes in their game than Swiss cheese

i think some of you guys need to give your heads a shake, no woman will ever play in the NHL as a skater. Haley w is a generational talent and has amcomplished a lot in her hockey career; however, the best she could do was Div 3 hockey in Europe, that is a far cry from the NHL.

There is simply no way a woman, even a generational talent like Haley would ever be strong enough or fast enough to bump a guy from the bottom 6.

Goalie possibly; however, even that is a stretch due to the fact not many women grow to be 6 feet which seems to be the minimum size for goalies these days. Shannon S skated with the Oilers and the boys can say they did not take it easy on her, but let's face it, the Oilers did not make her a contract offer.

As for management, sure, why not - they'd likely have to put up with a bunch of crap on the way up.....

I have played hockey with men/boys all of my life since I was 5, and still play rec mens leagues at 50 and am competitive. I also played against Haley when she was 18, 19. She was really big for a women. Things have changed, but in tune up games for the Olympics- the women are still playing Midget boys. I think that even with girls growing up playing with the guys they will never compete at that high level just for the physiological differences. I also don't think that they need to. Good women's hockey is entertaining, and the Olympics this year was a great example of really good women's hockey. I can see women becoming trainers, scouts and maybe other positions, but I think it would be hard to be in the coach stream- just because the game is played differently and thought differently.

I went to see the women play Red Deer's AAA this past winter leading up to the Olympics. It was a good game (AAA won 2-1), but they did a shoot out after. The women had the skill, speed, hockey sense, team play but they lacked size. They lacked the physical ability to remove a player or occupy the space on the ice needed to disrupt play. I am not just talking checking (there is none when the AAA play the women) but simple puck battles, the physical differnce showed up.

I agree with you about the women's game. It is good hockey, I often take my daughter to see the Queens play in Dead Rear (not the highest, but still fast/good hockey).

What bothers me about women's hockey is the no-hit rule. I think they should be playing the same rules as the men. There is no reason women shouldn't be able to hit.

Contact, no hit. Meaning if the puck is involved, than you can bump grind, turn a shoulder of an opponent into the boards, but no actual hitting. Still can be a physical game, but no open ice hitting.

I'm not comparing adult men and women, but my son's 10 year old spring hockey team had a few "friendly" games with the Havoc Girls team (also 10 years old). My son's team was dominating their league, but usually lost by 10 goals or more each time they played Havoc. I don't know if they are some kind of girls all-star team, but they are incredible skaters.

The boys didn't take to losing to them very well, and the last game of the season got ugly, with the coaches threatening violence on each other. Quite a gong show.

Girls are often bigger and stronger until around 14. That is why girls can be very successful against the boys through minor hockey.

I wouldn't completely rule out a female player one day, a ridiculously tough 180 pound 5'10 woman could make it. I've seen women that are stronger than men that are also natural, they are rare but they exist. I've seen a 135 pound female wrestler beat the crap out of a 200 pound man like he was a small child.

To make the NHL a women wouldn't have to physically dominate, she'd just have to be good enough. One problem has to be that they never learn checking and never get the chance to train to the level of men. It would take a girl with great genetics that plays with boys from a young age. To say no women could ever make it because of physical limitations isn't completely true, unlikely, but not impossible. It's not like every male player is physically dominant and all muscle.
