What's really crazy is that Buffalo could potentially have 2 top 5 picks in this draft, depending on how well the Isles do. The Blues are going to be near the top, so I would expect that pick to be at least late teens to the 30 range, but they'd still get a pretty good player with that pick as well. Buffalo can be a powerhouse a few years down the road.

The Islanders only finished as bad as they did because they had worse goaltending than we did. Halak, while not being great, should solidify that to a large extent. I don't think the Isles make the playoffs, but they should likely be out of the top 5.

How about we start dissecting the 2016 draft while we are on a roll?

Sean Day is looking like a great D-man although it's early. The 16' draft is looking to be on par with this past one.

It's really a shame the Flames have no veterans outside of Giordano that would net extra first rounders. Hudler won't net a first rounder in such a strong year, and neither would Glencross in the last year of his contract (even if he would waive his NMC).
It looks like we're only going to have the one first rounder next year, so they better make it worthwhile.

Well, with that being said, I hope the Flames do really well in the 2015-2016 season. If the draft class is poor, we want nothing to do with it. Let's lose next year, get McDavid who will make the team for the fall. Then, we can win the cup for 2015-2016 and draft 30th.

How about the Flames kick some ass next season and not worry about who the top draft eligible players are?

C'mon Sureloss, you know what I mean. Discussing the draft is fine, but people are penciling the Flames in for players at or near the top of the draft.
The season hasn't even started, they finished last year with plenty to be excited about, they've added a goalie that is sure to give them a solid one-two punch in net and they've added more high end prospects to an already formidable pool.
The talk around here should be can't wait to make the playoffs, not can't wait to draft Mcdavid.
Cheer for 30th if we're 3/4 through the season and things haven't gone as planned, until then, go Flames go.

IMO it is naive to think that draft discussion on a Flames message board will not involve at least a few people chiming in on who they hope the Flames will pick.
Hoping for playoffs and discussing potential high draft picks aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. Also, obviously not everyone around here has the same expectations you do.
If you don't like it avoid threads clearly marked draft until 3/4 of the season has passed.

We have a lowest payroll in the entire league at $50,436,667. What exactly do you think is being planned?
Yes, I'll be cheering the team on all season - it's my first season as a season ticket holder. I'm also still very aware that this team is built for the McDavid/Eichel sweepstakes, but that doesn't mean there won't be a hell of a lot of entertaining hockey between now and then.

When you finish 4th last and lose two of your top scorers and replace them with Mason Raymond, it's going to be difficult to score. I am hopeful that the Flames will be competitive, but realistically looking at other teams on paper, we are either 30th or very close to it. We only have 2 top 6 forwards and one of them is still a teenager.

Don't forget man-child defenseman Jakob Chychrun. This picture was taken just after his 15th birthday:

He was probably referring to Stempniak, but I wouldn't necessarily consider him a top 6 player.

Doesn't help that he's standing beside child-man Kris Letang
