Ugh, couldn't they have re-designed the yearly stickers as well?
Tired of seeing dumb dumbs with 2006 on the top left and March somewhere randomly in the middle of the plate somewhere.
Which is why #2 design also sucks, because it'll be covered by 3 stickers - why even bother having a design on it?

I like the current sticker design. Gives me a fair idea of how dumb they are when they can't follow the directions on where to put the sticker.

Alberta is getting a new licence plate. The plate will feature a new design, Alberta's website address and new logo, and a reflective coating that will help make roads and communities safer.

Wow, I'm shocked that the white bar plate is winning. I hope the people of Alberta don't get another vote wrong and we end up getting stuck with something horrible for years.
Maybe the poll is being flooded by non Albertans and they are trying to stick us with the ugliest option.

I've never understood the purpose of alternating where the year sticker goes.

I like the first one, because you can't tell if it's going to snow, rain or if the sun is going to come out.

Alberta plates haven't had a reflective coating in over 20 years, they're putting that back on. I think that's all they're talking about there.

I wonder if they have tested the reflective coating with the CPS revenue generating cameras?

To boot, aren't European plates done by country? Can you imagine having 64 plates done Euro style for North America? It'd be pretty hard to distinguish between all of them.

We need to CP Gihad this so we aren't stuck with the horrible looking feathered gradient photo of BC... Everyone vote for 1!

The first one is the "best" if you have to choose.
I think I'm going to wait to see what the other for purchase options are. Hopefully a Flames one.

You would be correct!

The new plates will also have "a reflective coating that makes the plate easier to see under low light conditions and easier for infrared equipment to read," provincial officials said.

According to that wording, it sounds like it's not forced, but I could be wrong.
|
Sounds to me more like if you want to get a new plate before your normal renewal period, you can do so for a price, or you can wait and you'll get one when you renew. Either way, everyone will have a new plate by sometime in early 2016 (depending on when they roll these out in 2015).

The reflective coating makes the plates easier to see at night. I think the safety aspect is just because it lets the police see your plates easier at a distance.
