Disagree really strongly about the value of the 3rd place playoff game. Genuinely no-one cares.
I think you're way more wrong than you realize. It gets huge audiences and many consider to often be one of the best games in the tournament, usually better than the final, and absolutely a game you should tune in to watch if you like football. Many finals have been careful and slow games compared to 3rd place playoffs.
I feel that in the recent years there's been more talk of bringing a 3rd place playoff into the Euro cup than removing it from the World Cup.

That's because no-one gives a #### about it (because there's literally nothing at stake) and they don't bother defending.
Equals lots of goals.
Let's see what kind of teams get put out on Saturday night.

I've watched quite a few world cups and seriously can't remember watching one third place game.
I won't watch Saturday's game because quite simply I don't give a damn or could care less about it. It is, quite simply, a nothing game.
And just from the small sample size of my friends I consider myself the norm as opposed to the exception.

Well, if your friends watched it you probably would, so that's kind of an obvious statement.
I still think calling it a "nothing game" with "literally nothing at stake" is a silly hyperbole that is very far from reality.
But, to each their own Having watched them I can tell you've missed out on some very good football
South Korea - Turkey was possibly my favourite. Not necessarily the best game, but a great atmosphere from beginning to end. Also the fastest goal in World Cup history.
wow, that second Schuerrle goal was actually pretty sick. I barely even watched it the first time since there's so much blood on my screen from the beating Brazil is taking.
