Provincial motto. National anthem. Good allround.
Or nothing is OK too. Just nothing cheesy, like remember to breathe

Just remember, anything referring to "God" in government devices is usually a cruel mistake. We should consider changing our national anthem to "Science and Democracy keep our land, glorious and free." But I digress. It doesn't flow nicely anyways.

'THE BEST PLACE ON EARTH'.
Why would you choose to advertise that level of arrogance for all to see?

I know it's the provincial motto, but "strong and free" definitely has a bit of that US/Texasy vibe to it. In Latin it sounds a little nicer atleast.

"Strong and free" strikes me as some sort of Wildrose/Alberta Party shiz with separatist undertones. You may as well put "More Alberta, Less Ottawa" and be honest about it.
I'd rather have a motto of "Prosperity and onward" or something like that to indicate we are stable, growing economy with a high quality of life.

Yet it is taken right from the national anthem.

Then leave it in the national anthem, it has more federal undertones anyways. Alberta is no more "free" than any other province in this country. And level of taxation doesn't count because we still pay 10% and GST

It always throws me off to see a young person driving a car with vet plates.

I have to agree with this. Veteran plates usually warn me that the driver ahead is going to merge on to Deerfoot at 60 km/h.

Not only this, but it is nowhere to be found in American anthems.
The real problem with "strong and free" is that it is a little too bold for Canadian sensibilities. That alone would be enough reason for me to support it on our plates. It's long past time we as a nation stopped looking at ourselves through the lens of an inferiority complex.

My mind does not automatically go to the national anthem when I hear "strong and free". Unfortunately it comes across as some sort of US/Texas pseudo "don't tread on me" phrase that really implies something that other provinces don't have when used in a provincial context. And I'm confident myself and many other Albertans probably feel the same way.
It is in the anthem and good fit there, but is not, IMO, appropriate for a provincial license plate.

Fortis et Liber doesn't really have any long-historical association for Alberta. It was selected in 1980.
Latin is over done. I don't want to see it on license plates. Most people don't even know what they mean and it seems we always default to some variations of the same clichés (fortis, liber, ad astra, ad mari, etc. blah blah). Maybe we should go with James Bond's family motto. Alberta, orbis non sufficit!
Although I'd be cool with it if we went for some ridiculous phrases.

Wow, we are at opposite ends of the spectrum. All I hear when I read that phrase "Strong and Free" is the line of the anthem being sung in my head.
I think Resolute 14 is correct, we need to stand up more and have more of a "don't tread on me" attitude.

Don't forget these stickers: CAA, CAA Plus, WarAmps / Drivesafe and a Jesus fish to boot. I try to avoid these drivers at all costs. Brutal.
I actually came across a guy with ALL of these (including Veteran plate), I was relieved to get around this oblivious old dude. One of these guys who drives 40 everywhere, playground, School zones, residential areas (50-60).
People over the age of 55 should be required to have their reflexes checked, eyes checked, medical clearance, re-taking a road test & written test every 2 years.
(Yes it grinds my gears).

Why exactly? Who is treading on us? The Gubment?
Life is pretty good here, there's no need to project an angry vibe. License plates should be positive and inclusive, not be part of some political rant.
