Not that I feel the need to validate myself, but I've been a Flames fan since I was a small boy in 1985 and have watched them closely through the cup era, the Young Gunz (blech), The Sutter resurrection, the Feaster teardown etc.

Just because I haven't posted on this particular forum doesn't mean I haven't been long discussing the Flames and their trends, transactions, management, players, prospects et al on other websites. Also, just because I now live in Florida does not mean that I'm completely out to lunch on the hockey world.

I am aware he came right after the "best draft evah!!!" (BTW, none of those players have made it as a regular NHLer yet), but that doesn't mean he didn't have an important role with the team and valuable input. Sufficed to say that we don't know how much was him and how much was Feaster, but I think because he was tied to Feaster he gets a lot of negative bias from some people.

Even so, if you look at the 2012 draft and 2013 draft overall, there are some very key pieces to this team moving forward that are undeniable, and some very good later round picks that could have an NHL career. Clearly he wasn't so bad as he was snapped up by Vancouver to build their team. I feel like this is a good hire for Vancouver and a not so good situation for the Flames to have him on a rival team.

I think it's very telling that Feaster is working with an NHL club in a NON-personnel capacity and Weisbrod is an AGM again in the same role he was with Calgary.

I don't understand the Weisbrod hate. It seems like no one really knows what he did, what he influenced (beyond Janko) or how well the drafts under his watch will pan out. He rarely spoke in the media but to me always came across as intelligent and insightful more than condescending.

Not much to hang hate off in my opinion, but equally not much to predict future success either. Time will tell I guess, I wish him well

How is it a character assassination when the sources are Peter Maher, Eric Francis, Dean Molberg, etc? I don't know about the whole "Weisfraud" thing but even at HF Canucks they are digging up stuff on him. He's probably not a well liked guy across the league but who cares as he works for the Canucks.

Don't understand the hate? I don't understand the love. The guy worked for the Flames for a couple of years to which nobody knew what he did. People across the league scoffed at him for thinking he was smarter than everyone else. The highest profile move he made was to ensure the Flames picked Jankowski who in his words is "Joe Nieuwendyk" lol. IMO he was kind of a goof much like the rest of the league thought of him.

Just because it is reported doesn't mean it is true or it wasn't character assassination in the first place. Again, there's ample evidence to suggest that Chiarelli and Benning liked Weisbrod. It just seems silly that Chiarelli would hire Weisbrod, promote him, and not like him. Same goes for Benning who decided to hire him. Maybe somebody or some people in the Boston organization didn't like him, but the top guys did which is more relevant.

I was not one who loved Weisbrod and I am not about to begin now. I don't get where this whole "nobody knew what he did" thing comes from and why it's used as a slight against Weisbrod. It's like suddenly Flames fans forget they ever heard Weisbrod's name get mentioned or heard his interviews. Weisbrod was Feaster's AGM. He reported only to Jay. Jay wanted Weisbrod to be the guy scouting for him and giving him recommendations on players. If someone like Conroy didn't know what Weisbrod did then so be it. Did nobody listen to Jay's interviews in his time here? It's frequently John told him this John told him that and here we somehow prefer to belief that nobody knew what he did and therefore he did nothing? Did nobody catch the fact that Weisbrod ran the farm team with Conroy before Conroy took over?

Well if he did, he didn't do a very good job of it because Conroy was brought in due to a disconnect and a lack of communication between Calgary and Abbottsford.

A lot of those thoughts of him being a genius were fans giving him way too much credit for stuff that happened in Boston before he even got there.

I thought there was a guy from TSN (I thought McKenzie someone earlier said McGuire) who confirmed that Weisbrod was a guy that many in the business thought acted like he was smarter than everyone else. Considering some comments (Janko=Nieuwendyk, best player in draft) and many comments from Feaster it isn't too hard to see that being true.

He was a scout for two years with Boston and then promoted to Director of College scouting. I am not sure that is a quick promotion or a huge jump up that shows that Benning and Chiarelli thought a whole lot of him.

I always liked and trusted Weisbroad more then Feaster and I'm sure he'll do fine in his role. Seems to have a Vancouver-like personality so I bet he'll fit right into the city.

I'm interested to know how you could possibly trust one more than the other based on the information we as fans had at hand.

I was a supporter of Feaster, and by extension Weisbrod. Having said that, some of Burke's comments about Weisbrod specifically when he was dismissed were in no small part troubling. In retrospect, it is probably best that he is not with the Flames anymore, and I will be interested to see what sort of impact the Benning/Weisbrod combination has in Vancouver.

I've always looked at the Feaster time as amateur hour and since Weisbrod was his main adviser, I paint him with the same brush. He'll always be associated with the Jankowski pick so depending on how that turns out, will probably have something to do with his rep around here.

Not 100% sure but I think that is almost a direct quote from Burke in the presser or something like that after the release of Feaster and Weisbrod. At the very least he alluded to the fact that Weisbrod wasn't around and he wasn't sure what he did.

I have no ill will towards the guy, his time in Calgary was short so there really isn't much to judge him on. Being named VP might be a bit much this earlier but the Canucks are looking at a lot of changes and no blood doesn't hurt. I guess if you can't beat Boston hire as many as you can?

It's pretty obvious as to why isn't it? Feaster is/was a Lawyer. Haven't you ever seen Liar Liar?

On a serious note, Weisbroad was a hockey guy and Feaster was simply a businessman. That's typically enough for me.

Quick article on Weisbrod. Gives him a lot of credit for the Bruins success.

I'm thinking Treliving should get Conroy to call up Weisbroad up and say "Jankowski and our 2015 2nd round pick for Horvat and your 1st round pick. Make it happen on your end, I'll make it happen on mine."

Flames improve current prospects, and get two lottery draft picks in the 2015 draft. Canucks get hosed on the deal. Win, win.

I can't speak for BIF, but in general...

Feaster is both a "non-hockey guy" and he was GM in Tampa when they beat us. I think a lot of people here were predisposed to dislike him. (There were a lot of comments about how bad his drafting was in Tampa, but I think it is fun and interesting to note the change in tenor now where it is argued that the GM has little to do with the outcome of drafts.)

Weisbrod came in and one of the first things he played a big role in was reorganizing our scouting. He was also billed as a good talent evaluator - and at the same time, a lot of our prospects started to show signs of good development. Weisbrod may have gotten some extra credit for the growth of guys he had nothing to do with.

A lot of it will come down to perception and confirmation bias.

At this point I don't care is Weisbrod was good or not. I'm just happy with the freaking out that is going on out here about hiring an ex Flame exec.

My point is that outside of 2005-2006, you don't see a huge change in drafting "philosophy" .... you see changes, I'm sure, but technology advances, tools become available, etc... this isn't one particular thing that one guy does. The whole drafting "philosophy" that was re-vamped, well there is no real evidence to show there was a massive change.

There are good picks, sure, but again that is more than likely Tod Button. Especially since Weisbrod doesn't really seem to ever even leave the East Coast and our draft picks are CHL players, not to mention its not even Weisbrod's job as those picks are all Tod Button.

Personally, I couldn't be happier he is with the Canucks..... best case scenario IMO.
