A self-proclaimed 185-pounder, Bennett also shoved aside Keegan Kanzig, six foot six and 248 pounds, in a race for the puck behind the net.

“I just hope I showed (observers) my skill set and my compete level,” said Bennett. “I definitely think that there’s a lot more to my game that I can still bring. I still hope to show a lot more.”

“Smart on the ice — he knows where everyone’s at,” Gaudreau, who turns 21 next month, said of Bennett. “He makes plays. Great shot. Great speed. Great vision. I can see why the Flames drafted him — he’s a great hockey player. And an even better guy off the ice. You can tell he’s going to be a great teammate from the second you meet him.

“That’s the kind of guys the Flames have been drafting. It’s good to see that.”

The tiny left-winger, who played every shift with the puck on his stick, orchestrated Bennett’s power play strike — a quick feed followed by a clinical finish.

“Unbelievable player,” Bennett said of Gaudreau. “Any chance I get to play with a player of that calibre, it’s pretty special. Unbelievable vision and he’s a smart hockey player. His skill set, it blows me away.”

“Two dynamic guys,” said Harrison. “(Gaudreau) slows the game down so easily. He just stops the puck and it’s a walk in the park for him. Then he just picks and chooses whenever he wants to give the puck. Incredible.”

From Bennett, drafted fourth overall last week in Philadelphia, there had also been plenty to admire.

He claimed that he needed a feeling-out period. Not that anyone noticed.

“Actually, the first couple shifts, I was amazed by the speed of the game,” said the Holland Landing, Ont., native. “I’m not used to it being that fast. It took me a couple shifts to get comfortable out there. Once I did, I felt pretty . . . confident.”

There was nothing in any of todays interviews that was not awesome to hear. Harrison is a gem of a human. I hope for nothing but the best for him.

The problem that an AHL team faces is that they need to replace injuries for TWO teams. If the Flames suffer an injury, call up one of the top guys from the farm. Meanwhile, injuries on their own team are an even bigger problem due to the schedule which includes 3 games in 3 nights and lengthy bus rides.

There is PLENTY of room for Harrison to get icetime in Adirondack.

That is true, but I'd like to see him excel at college hockey first before making the jump. Being a returning player in college almost guarantees Harrison will get more ice time - and I'm not convinced Harrison will be more than an injury fill-in or in the ECHL if he turned pro now.

College seems like the safest route for now, unless he is confident in turning pro and that he is good enough for starting minutes in the AHL, or if he doesn't get more ice time next season.

Harrison has a lot to prove before he is even offered an ECHL contract, he wasn't even close to being the best player on a lower ranked hockey school last year

Colgate was a top-20 team for most of the season, and they qualified in the final 16 for the Frozen Four tournament. Harrison was the youngest player on the team. Even next season, there are only 4 committed players who are younger than he is.

He's certainly not ready to turn pro, but Colgate actually had a decent team last year.
