Car Repair - Post Service Inflated Quote.
When I bought my car almost a year ago, I negotiated to have a Bluetooth voice system and heated seats thrown in at a later date.
Today, I brought my car in to the dealership for some repair work. I called the guy who sold me the car and asked if instead of getting the add on's, if he could instead get me a discount on the service repairs.
After talking to his manager, he called back to say I had an $800 credit towards the my repairs. I was so happy I almost posted in the WRMMH thread.
The service guy called shortly after and gave me a quote of $1300, minus my $800 credit, for a total of $500. I agreed and told them to go ahead. A few hours later, the same service guy called to say the repairs were done, but there was a mistake with my credit. He said that my credit was now only worth $490 instead of $800, and that I was on the hook for the extra $310 and needed to pay them over $800 instead of the quoted $500.
I went in to pick up my car, and spoke with the manager about the credit. He explained that the sales guy went home and they were unable to talk to him about the credit (even though this was the same manager my sales guy spoke to about the credit). I explained that because I was quoted $1300, minus the $800 credit from both the sales guy and the service guy, that I would pay that and nothing more. After a bit of debating, he agreed to let me pay my originally agreed upon price and then told me that if they decided there was an error, they would call me to come in and pay the remaining $310 to them. I lied through my teeth and agreed, paid my originally agreed upon $500 price, and left with my car.
If/when they call and want the extra money, I want to tell them to pound sand.
Can they force me to pay the revised amount when they originally quoted me much less for the repair?

Why would you lie and agree with that, and did you get the quote in writing?

I agreed t come back because I wanted to pay what I agreed upon and leave.

I guess if they call you back you could just tell them there was a mistake in your agreement and actually you're going to pay them zero dollars.
See how they like it when the shoe is on the other foot.

Would you have still traded the bluetooth and heated seats for $490?
Would you have gotten a second quote from a different shopnif the credit was 490 instead of 800.
If not I would say you are in the clear because the misquote caused you to change your behaviour.
If you would have still gone ahead with the repair and exchange knowing the credit was only $500 than I think you should pay for it.
Edit: didnt realize you just wanted to know if they could come after you. They might be able to put a lein on the car for unpaid work. Not sure though

I'm never a fan of keeping score on the side in deals. Get it in writing or don't count on getting it. All that said, total BS from the dealership/repair shop, not shocking but enraging I'm sure.
I'd stand my ground pretty firm on that. If you have your car then see how far they are willing to take it with no leverage. If you have any kind of documentation to fall back on then even better for you.

What dealer was this at? Seems pretty shady to not honour what they originally agreed to
