How does someone hate a sport.
I mean I get being disinterested in it. But to be irratated by the coverage of it seems irrational. Your a sports fan so shouldn't at least at a minimum you have a begruding respect for athletes who are the best at what they do.

Same way you can hate anything in life.
But really you have hit the nail on the head with the comment about the athletes. At it's purest form, I guess I could accept the game, but when you see it played by individuals that dive/embellish everylitte niggle or near miss......well I have no time for that. I havn't even touched on the fans. The antics of the fans revolt me, and disgust me. As a "sports fan" I should not have to worry about being attacked.
When I went to Old Trafford we sat in the Man U area, but we walked by the away supports area. They were let in early, and had to leave late with a police escort to their buses.
Garbage.

I'm not sure why people say/believe that. Anyone who says it cheats anytime anyway, so I don't know why they need to justify it during Stampede.

It RGMG when I unzip my pants to take a leak, then somehow the zipper handle thing gets rotated 90 degrees instead of normal like below.
Then I am left with the dilemma of trying to fix it on the spot, but risk ripping it off and being fly-less all day at work. Or just leave it, and spend 30 seconds trying to zip it up everytime I piss.

2. Make the field smaller (might need to eliminate a player or two on each side.)
So grass hockey?
3. Implement some sort of rules to generate more offense. Something similar to basketball in terms of moving the ball over half more quickly and not allowing passes back over half.
Or make points worth 2-6 points. Because when the numbers are higher it's more exciting. Basketball itself is frightfully boring for this reason. Why get excited about a basket when they happen every 20 seconds?
I know an important part of soccer right now is positioning and strategy but I'd be more inclined to watch if there was a lot more emphasis on strong offense and attacking the scoring zone.

I would like to give Table_5 a hug. I don't see why we can't like both.
And there's arguably just as much diving/embellishment in hockey. Just because they (all) don't writh in pain on the ice for a couple minutes doesn't make it less embarassing. And people who like soccer don't like diving either. Nice to see the South American's living up to their reputations at the top of that list though.
And I think we can all agree that hockey encompasses all the best parts of sport. Its like full contact, fast moving soccer. If people want to find an appreciation for soccer I suggest picking up a FIFA game for your chosen console. Great fun.
EDIT: I would also like to add to the original notion that soccer players are the best athletes in the world. Of course that is subjective and maybe cross-sport performance should be taken into account. But as far as conditioning goes, I don't think you could argue that soccer players aren't the best conditioned team athletes (ie outside of triathalon etc..). Teams only get 3 subs per game. Most of those players play the entire game, many of them getting up over 10kms of running distance through the duration of the game.

Hmmm what about the truculence factor in these sports? Would be very interested to know on a level of 1-10 which sports are the least truculent to the most truculent.

When the food line is long at costco because everyone in front of you is getting everything but a hotdog. Just order the ####ing hotdog and pop like a normal person so it will only take 5 seconds!

Ok, maybe I misunderstood your term. How are defining "full contact" as used in your sentence?

I said/meant - Hockey is like full contact, faster soccer. If soccer was played on ice and was full contact, it would be hockey.
I also don't think credit is given to the roughness of soccer. The whining and diving definitely gives it a pansy-feel, and its no hockey or rugby, but kicks in the shins/ankles with enough force to break them clean in half, colliding mid-air for headers, and taking full-power shots off the head in general. It's pretty rough out there and, just like hockey, you normally see dives on things like trips and plays that could gain advantages like penalties. You rarely see people diving after colliding head-head jumping for a ball after sprinting. That stuff actually hurts.
What they really need is more than one guy out there giving out penalties. If that had two or three mobile refs, it would probably curb the diving a lot more.
Soccer, more than a lot of sports, is very blinded by tradition, hence things like Englands non-goal from the last WC.

I think both hockey and soccer should use supplemental discipline for diving. Its easy to miss on the game nut if you had 1 game suspension for diving given after the fact based on video evidence it would curb it pretty quick

Couldn't agree more. If we started seeing suspensions for repeat offendor divers, I think it would seriously cut it down, in hockey anyway.

All good.
But, we get it - you've beaten the point down and feel soccer sucks.

No worries.
I have to take issue with this though. The enjoyment and quality of the game of soccer is completely subjective no different than a movie or music. Soccer does not suck. You may not like soccer, or certain aspects of it, but that does not make it bad.
The Oilers suck. Because they have been a bottom team for years. Objectively, they suck.
Soccer does not suck. In fact, it routinely crushes all other sports from an objective ranking point of view (participants, # of people watching, # of leagues, top player pay, etc...)
But this is the WGMG thread, so none of this really matters.
