I don't think the concern is that he's not skilled enough, it's simply about ensuring his body can take it. He spent the last 3 years playing the college schedule, it now pretty much doubles in the NHL. The hits are a lot harder and the risks of injury also get higher. These are legitimate concerns and I really hope Johnny is part of the decision process too. One wrong step and he could get absolutely leveled and be out for a good period of time.
I want him to succeed as much as anyone, but I also want him to stay healthy and be in good enough condition to have a life after hockey.

Gaudreau was also the best Flames player on the ice vs. the Canucks. His NHL career will start in Oct, I'd put money on it.
Wish I could've been there to catch the Bennett goals on tape. I'll make sure to catch the good stuff on wed. Today was pretty tame for goals. Credit to the two goalies that rotated in.

He's not playing against children in the AHL. That league is far less disciplined, with far wilder games and some pretty insane and borderline hits that happen every night.
AHL or NHL. If you have the skill, play at the highest level. He will not be safe from the physicality or the rigors of a tough schedule in the Ahl. In fact, I would say it is far worse in the minors.

If I were part of the flames brass, this all comes down to durability, and not down to ability. Johnny has shown he can play in the NHL. However, would it be beneficial for him to play a bit in the AHL where the schedule is ramped up from what it was at BU and where he will have to endure the hard minutes? If he outplays the league, great, bring him up. If he takes some hard hits and faces some adversity, no problem, you have given him time to adjust. There just doesn't seem to be a negative to putting him in Glen Falls to begin, as much as the fan in me is excited for him to go straight to the Flames.

Ok ok, I'll explain the youtube handle, lol.
Bak in the ps2 socom days, I was pretty good at the game. One round, my whole team died and I left alone against the other team. I managed to kill them all and win the round and in the lobby afterwards, one of my teammates meant to say "you handed them their asses" but it instead came out as " you handled their asses". Everyone got a good laugh and the nickname stuck.

Johnny was great as everyone has already mentioned.
really liked Sam Bennett & Klimchuk for forwards you can see the hockey IQ and skill set are cut above,
As far a Dmen go Kanzig looked good although he was clearly told not to follow thru on his checks, I thought Roy & Culkin looked good as well
As far as the invitees go the only one that impressed me was the Czech kid can't recall his name

Considering that he'd likely start as the first line LW in the AHL, as opposed to sheltered minutes to begin with in the NHL, wouldn't the AHL schedule be a lot more difficult of an adjustment for JG?
76 games playing 20+ per and taking the bus everywhere doesn't seem like "easing in" compared to an NHL schedule.
I'm open to being wrong tho, don't know a lot of AHL details.
P.S. Sick SO goal by Bennett btw, thanks StrykerSteve for recording that, totally awesome. And belated thanks for all the free agency info, you were better than TSN! lol

That's awesome. I miss the Socom days. Wonder if we ever played together. You hear about H-Hour?
