I do. Butler-Engelland would actually be a fine 3rd pair.

Smid-Russell would be a pair playing too much and will get exposed.

Would be absolutely fine for our meagre ambitions this season. Having Smid on one pair and Engelland on another ensures there will be no quarter for opposing forwards in the goal crease. Good mix of toughness and puck movement.

I have every reason to think Wideman could be much better this season, but only if he is finally healthy.

I don't think we need Chris Butler.

The only reason Butler gets credit for blocking so many shots is the one-timers from the slot that hit him in the leg because he just coughed up the puck.

Wotherspoon/Seiloff/somebody else would benefit more from bottom 2 minutes. Whether those players would benefit more from big minutes in the AHL is a different conversation.

I'd rather sign a cheap veteran to a one year deal to be the #7. Someone who can play both sides like Hannan did for us. Butler is likely looking for a multi year deal

Butler played quite well at the end of last season, but a guy heading to UFA should have played even better IMO throughout the season.

I'd like to see him back, but on a 'prove it' contract. If he can play a whole season the way he played the last 20 games then I think a lot of teams could use a guy like him.
