Uh oh. We have a Toronto Oilers fan here.
Who's going to plug the gaping holes in the lineup next year then?

Calgary's asset is cap space. You can't save it. It doesn't role over, you use it or it disappears. So why do people hate calgary using its assets.
It completely ignores what makes a bad contract. A bad contract stops you from doing something else with your team. A bad contract has a high opportunity cost.
This contract has zero opportunity cost so at worst its a neutral deal. It has no future negative possibilities therefore it can't be the worst contract of the day. The GM himself admits that he overpayed to bring down the term. This was intentional use of our biggest asset cap space.
Other teams signed long term deals to win now sacrificing future cap space. If they win now then those contracts are successful. We did the oppisite sacrificed current cap space to win in the future.
|
The Flames could have used that cap space on a better player. Sure it might have "hurt" them in the standings this season, but on the other hand it may have given a player like Giordano more incentive to sign an extension when the time comes.
Now if the Flames want to improve next offseason they have to go out and acquire an extra good player or two that they didn't land this season. Inactivity builds up.

Same type of players who the flames will? Are you new to hockey? Rebuilding teams use their youth when they are developed enough to play in the NHL. But i will stop there, because you attempt at sarcasm obviously shows your either drunk or a huge flames homer, so i wont bother.
I actually came here to read and post because its a collection of a lot of smart posters. Dont look so stupid, you stick out

Weird, that there'd be Flames fans on a Flames forum. You're the only one I see sticking out in this thread...

Engelland is probably the most overpaid of the day, but his is definitely not the worst contract.

Brother, you can't call people idiots while not understanding what apostrophes are and how they're used.
I would like to know more about your personal business, yes. How much money do you make and how tall are you? How many women have you slept with and how large is your penis? How much can you bench press? How long does it take you to run a mile? What kind of car(s) do you drive? Do you have a moustache? Who is skip? How many fights have you been in and did you win them all? How much did your TV cost?

Haha. I'm not baiting because he's gone, but "I most likely have more money than you" on an anonymous hockey board is awesome

Can we unban him just for a minute, so he can answer my questions?

I second the unban, I'd like to help him clarify the difference between "your" and "you're".

agreed.
its a poor contract in terms of the player brings to the ice vs how much compensation he is getting.
by some people's logic, we could have paid DE 5 million per year, and that would not be considered a "bad contract" because we have cap space?
Meanwhile, people talk about the Byron deal being shrewd because we saved some money in not giving him a qualifying offer? Why? If you are under the cap floor, then people could have paid Byron whatever was awarded in arbitration, rather than risking a valuable asset (other people's assessment), walk away for nothing?
If Edmonton made this signing, I am pretty sure folks here wouldn't be justifying it with the same vigor and passion
