What a god awful post. David Moss worked hard to do what few late round picks accomplish...become an NHLer. He deserves every penny he's made and will make.

He's 32 and according to Capgeek has made 9.2 million on the official NHL books.
He's succeeded by any reasonable measure. Good for him.
In one season he was close to 0.5 ppg.... awesome.

^^^ 441 NHL games (and counting). That's 441 more than probably 95% of all 7th round picks...

He's an overachiever but the Flames don't lack for bottom 6 forwards and Moss isn't a top 6 forward. That ship has sailed.

Moss was fantastic in 2008/2009 on our offensively stacked team. 20 goals and 19 assists, then followed it up with 3 goals in the playoffs vs Chicago. Unfortunately he had 3 injury ridden seasons following that with us.
He only missed 5 games in both seasons with Phoenix though.

I dont think any professional sports player deserves the kind of money they make but I guess that's a whole different ball of wax.

I don't see the need to fill more spots with players turning 33 before the end of the year.

I'm curious to know what prospects people think will be displaced by David Moss.
Oon the RW due to our lack of depth there. The only prospect that has a realistic chance of making this team on RW is Poirier and he just recenly went under the knife and is unlikely to be readyin Steptember. So the ayitlooks to me is....
Jiri Hudler
David Jones
Paul Byron
Brian McGrattan
Byron might actually be our second line RW considering how teribleJones has been.

I am also confused by the apparent dislike for David Moss by many Flames fans. What did he do to deserve that kind of vitriol? I can understand not wanting to repeat history, but Moss was an effective player for the Flames. Weshould be more respectful towards Flames' alumni, especially 7th rounderswho play nearly 500 games.

Missing Colborne? Shows the lack of depth, but he's probably being penciled in on Monahan's right wing to start as it did seem to somewhat work.
With Monahan, Backlund, Stajan, and Bouma the centers and Hudler, Glencross, Raymond and Bollig on the left Colborne would be forced to play the right. If that's how it goes. So already any prospect making the team will have to displace someone like Byron just to be a thirteenth forward. If Baertschi or Gaudreau or whoever else makes the team they'll be forced to play some musical chairs with the wings and have people out of position.

It's not a dislike for David Moss. I appreciate what he did and how he developed.
However, there are better options within our organization who should be looked at.

I agree, he deserves more respect than what he is getting. Besides having a 20 goal season for us, he was always a responsible player on the ice and seemed like a gentleman off the ice.
I just don't think we need a 32 year old depth player right now considering that we have a lot of young players at the cusp. If we weren't a rebuilding team and we wanted depth for a playoff push, I would want him on my team.

I didn't include Colborne on my list of RW ecause he is a C being played out of position -- the coaching staff commented that this was not where they wanted him. Hudler is really a LW but is versatile enough to play RW. If we look at natural right wingers, we have only Jones, Byron and McGrattan. After Poirier, the system offers very little. Autin Carroll is going pro, but who knows what he has to offer. Hunter Smith is still atleast a couple years away. Not saying Moss is the answer, just pointing out our severe lack of RW depth. Treliving SHOULD be upset about not being involved in the James Neal trade negotiations.

I don't think it's dislike. He's an average player that doesn't bring a lot to the table outside of just being a big body that pots the odd garbage goal. He doesn't possess any skills that this team is lacking, he's not a building block and according to posters in the Butler thread (not me) if you haven't been signed by now it's because you are pure garbage.

Isn't Neal naturally a left winger?

A good David Moss story:
My friend and his family are long time season ticket holders and participate in the charity poker tournament every year. My friend likes to yap and the more he drinks, the chattier he gets. He's sitting at the table with Moss who was injured and on crutches at the time and my friend mentions that his rec league team has a game at the Corral in a day or two at like 1030 which coincided with the next Flames home game on the same night. My friend joked that Moss should come over after the Flames game and check it out. Sure enough, fast forward to their next game and who hobbles into the dressing room but David Moss, crutches and all. He ended up sitting and chatting with the guys while they got their gear on and then took off.
The guys were absolutely stunned when he walked into the room. I've had a tremendous amount of respect for him ever since I heard that. Hope he finds a home.

He wasn't.
But regardless, I agree that he has had a respectable NHL career, and that the Flames don't need to re-visit David Moss.
