Genie's strategy is going to have to change, I think.
Or something.
She's out matched in the first set anyway

Love the resolve of this girl tho

Genie is getting blasted off the court. She has the mental strength to recover in the 2nd set if Kvitova lets her guard down, but it's a tall order.

That might be too little too late for this set, but a nice break back might lend some confidence for the next set!

At least she got a break so at least that is possible.

Genie needs to switch her serve strategy, more up the T than out wide because Kvitova is getting the angles with the left handed swing. When Genie forces rallies is where she will beat Kvitova.

Kvitova really on top of her game. Her return of serve is just too good today.

This is like how Venus and Serena used to blast people off the court. Wasn't particularly enjoyable to watch.

Don't think Genie is coming back from this. Another learning, another step forward.

Kvitovas return is just way too good. That angle she is getting on it is sick.

I'm not sure how this is a learning experience at all. What's the lesson? Don't play a player in the ####ing zone?

Maybe try to change things up a little but really there's not much she could do that would make a difference today. Kvitova's playing at an exceptionally high level and there's probably not a female tennis player in the world that could beat her today.

Well her adjustments could have been a bit better, and she'll work on her serve. But aside from that, I agree... not a whole lot to take from this.

You learn that's it's not just about you.
That the difference between getting there and winning might be a lot - so you learn how much better you might need to be.
You learn there are no fairy tales.
You learn to battle harder that she did this final set.

Yea Genie ran into the goddamn Incredible Hulk today, nothing that anyone else could do either. The people who bought tickets to this and last year's final might be a little miffed.

Have a better plan for an opponent with a power game.

But Kvitova was ridiculous today.
