Byron was often the best player on the ice, and plays all three zones. His numbers, his skill and his tenacity indicate he's an NHL'er.

I'd rather have Byron on the team than Stempniak, Bollig, Jones and in some ways Stajan and Colborne too. That's just me though.

My recollection was he had some good nights but it wasn't a big deal if we didn't keep him. But I just went through videos of his goals on nhl.com.

He has pretty amazing timing as to when he drifts into scoring position. Might be a cheap source of 15 goals and a threat on the PK.

Byron is part of the solution. He might not play 82 games but the 50 or so he'll play he'll give it all he's got.

Guys that are not part of the long-term solution imo: Jones, Glencross, Bollig, McGratton, Raymond, Smid, Engelland, Wideman. So as contracts run out younger prospect will take their place.

I'll hold judgement on Raymond, to see what he might bring - but agree completely on the others, plus include Hudler on the list.

I am happy to see Byron back... hope he picks up where he left off last year and builds on it.

Nothing but good things generally happen when he's on the ice.

Super utilitarian player. And our fastest player.

Plays 40 lbs heavier than he is too.

Really glad this happens. I agree with everything that's been done this off season. Can't wait for the regular season to see what we can do.

Also excited about how tough we're going to be. Used to enjoy watching other teams cringe when they came to town. I think that will be the case again soon.

I recall at the time Byron didn't get enough credit for this shootout goal as people assumed he had lost the puck and got it to go in anyways. Pretty clear that it was a beautiful fake:

Also, there was this beautiful hit on Burrows. #### that guy forever.

But at some point you need to start fitting pieces of your rebuild in, and Byron is probably not going to be part of the long term vision of the Flames.

The key prospects that are ready to graduate, the Reinharts and others are those bottom 6 guys that need to take Byron's spot.

You can't get sentimental for a player on a bottom tier team because you can't keep bringing everyone back.
Why is it that the Reinharts and others need to take Byron spot?

It hasn't been posted to capgeek yet, so I assume that means it hasn't been reported anywhere.

I'd re-sign Hudler when his contract is up (He would be 33) to help continue teaching and mentoring our youth. A small skilled veteran player like him would be very beneficial to the offensive and defensive development of guys like Baertschi, Granlund, Gaudreau, etc. (Baertschi especially). I wouldn't sign him for more than 2 or 3 years but that would definitely make him part of the long term solution

Watching AC's Cammalleri highlight video, there are a lot of slick plays from Hudler. I think he's a big part of the rebuild and if he can keep being productive see him as the cagey vet we'll need in a few years when the youngsters start hitting their stride...

I think it isn't out of the realm of possibility that Byron could fill most if not all of the offense lost by Cammalleri this past season if he gets more of an opportunity, Byron played 5 min a game less than Cammy and 16 fewer games. Byron did have 21 points this year, to Cammy's 45.
