We need to start a thread on who the next GM is going to be come Christmas.
Everyone has a clean chance of making the team.
The Flames do not gift wrap roster spots.
They will be earned - which Gaudreau will do, probably being the best player in the AHL, not just on Adirondack

and it's about McDavid

I believe Gaudreau himself could be worth 6 wins, and quite frankly that's 12 points the Flames simply do not need next year.
Sorry - but it true.
Best for his development to play in the AHL, best for the Flames future

EDIT to add: I really thought the Flames opened the door for Gaudreau to play full time in Calgary (when they did not qualify Byron).
That door is now closed.
So much wrong with this post. This is exactly Oiler mentality to the t. Yet you're pretending it's not.

Disgusting. Byron isn't even two league below Gaudreau. Byron doesn't OWN the spot because they re-signed him. Johnny will have every chance to beat anyone else for that spot. And he would not be handed top minutes, likely third line minutes with a couple of big bodies, from which he'd have to work his way up.

Treliving will give the kids fair game to displace someone on the roster if they're good enough. They won't be buried in the AHL for the sake of McDavid, as much as you might like to see that happen. That's not how Treliving and the coaching staff are going to build this team. If a player needs development, they'll go. If they prove themselves like Monahan, then they'll stay. They don't want to rush them but they also don't want to hold them back.

People talking about keeping all the kids down are being ridiculous. That will not be the case. Some will make the roster opening day, I guarantee you. Not because I think they're going to rush a couple kids for the sake of the fans and hype, but because a couple players will prove 100% that they are ready to be there. Many of our prospects are a few years along now in their development. Kids will be knocking.

Blah, blah blah, blah

Kids will be knocking.
Of course kids will be knocking. I'm just saying the organization won't hand Gaudreau a spot, he will earn it. Not sure why you disagree.

The second part, ten lines down with bag on head (to distance it from team philosophy) is my thoughts - hoping somehow that nothing is stalled and that the Flames can get a potentially generational talent.

But maybe you're right. The Flames should just hand the keys to kids who have a great camp

I wonder if we might see something like this in October... Hopefully there are some trades coming (Glencross, Jones I'm looking at you!). I could see Kanzig earning himself a 9 games. I'm starting to think Gaudreau gets half a season in the AHL to adjust to the pros.

Glencross Backlund Raymond
Byron Monahan Hudler
Bollig Stajan Jones
Bouma Colborne McGrattan
Reinhart

Giordano Brodie
Smid Wideman
Russell Engelland
Kanzig

Hiller
Ramo

Nowhere in his post did he say anything like that. Actually, your first paragraph where you think you're disagreeing with him you actually summed up essentially what djsflames said. If a young player earns a spot, he will have it. Flames will keep the players that have proven they earned a roster spot.

K editing the quote just makes you sound ignorant.

And yes, they'll be given every chance to earn those "keys".... over the course of the season. Them making the roster after camp doesn't indicate a Hall/RNH/Eberle situation. If he makes it, then he'll have to earn his minutes like the other 13 forwards. And if Johnny is indeed worth 12 points in the standings, I can assure you those 12 points won't be spent on Adirondack.

I'd love to see us get McDavid as I'm sure you would (even if, shamefully). But not through intentionally hurting our season by holding back players who can help us now. I'd much rather see us make an improvement from last year, and hopefully win the lottery. Tanking for specific players rarely works out, and it's a slippery slope that I'd rather we not go down. We had the right mentality last year, let's keep it up and build on it. Not make a 180 just cause McDavid is on the board.

Didn't think about the Bennett 9 game thing. You guys might be right on that in which case he would be on the starting lineup.

I have a feeling the Flames will do what the Lightning did last year with Drouin and send him down without him playing any NHL games. It will depend on injuries though. If the Flames have to send someone decent through waivers so Bennett can play a few NHL games then I can definitely see them sending him down to the OHL before the season starts.

I suspect that, at the very least, Bennett will get one NHL game. What a motivator it will be.

Not so sure Bennett will even see one game. If he isn't ready, he isn't ready. Not a slight in the least if he is sent back to the OHL.
I missed the development camp, but it sure sounded like he looked like a kid out there. Likely even more obvious at the main camp.

My best guess;

Glencross Backlund Raymond
Colborne Monahan Hudler
Bouma Stajan Jones
Bollig Knight McGrattan

Reinhart

Giordano Brodie
Smid Wideman
Russell Engelland

Wotherspoon

Hiller
Ramo

Gaudreau, Baertschi are the last couple of cuts.

Flames for sure need to add another NHL caliber dman, when injuries happen they are very thin.

I think you are pretty close here, the only difference I see is Wolf as the extra fwd and Reinhart continues growing in the AHL with the rest of the team.

LW.................Centre..........RW
Glencross.....Backlund.......Hudler
Raymond......Stajan............Jones
Gaudreau......Monahan.......Colborne
Bollig............Bouma..........McGrattan

Spares....Byron and Granlund

LD.................RD

Giordano.......Brodie
Smid.............Wideman
Russell..........Engelland

Spare... Wotherspoon

The toughest part is the 2nd and 3rd pairings as you don't want two slowish defencemen together but again I haven't seen Engelland play.

Ranking the first three forward lines as to 1st, second or third depends on who's hot. Glencross and Jones provide a little bite on my first two lines and Colborne provides size on my third line. Hoping Colborne becomes more aggressive as he gains confidence.

One thing I like with the addition of Bollig, we should be able to roll 4 lines, (except for McGrattan).

I'm curious as to why people have prospects as spares. The worst thing a prospect can do is sit in the presser and play very few games

If it works out they're not seeing any action, sure send them down for a while but as long as they are reasonably busy, it doesn't hurt to gradually put them in the lineup.

Is there even room to have both Johnny and Sven in the lineup as LW's at the same time with the signings of Raymond and Byron?
