It will slide if he doesn't play at least 10 NHL games, even if he spends the whole season in Adirondack.

I like Byron but not a huge fan as I don't see a lot of upside. Good signing though as he deserved his spot last season. Byron can easily slip into the 13th forward spot if Gaudreau shows enough to make the team.

Gaudreau will have to play lights out to make the team out of camp. Not just good, but great. We know there is going to be a limit on the number of munchkins on the team and having another one on a one way deal makes it that much harder for a kid to step in and take the job. I'd prefer that guys with long term potential play on the team if they show any semblance of being ready. Just my opinion.

Ye of little faith! Gaudreau does not do "merely good".

But Johnny Gaudreau is a Left Winger.
Surprised that Treliving hasn't done more to add some depth to the right side. Probably why the Flames re-signed Paul Byron to begin with.
I like Byron and I think he improved a lot last season and he's good in certain situations but in a 5 on 5 grind type game, not so much.
I'm glad the Flames signed him for another year and keep his career going.

Glad to see Byron back. Plays way bigger than he actually is. Having said that the flames need to address the C/LW log jam. Need. More. RW. I can live with shorter players on the team but we need to look at it getting some more right wingers in the system. If that means parting with guys like Byron via trade, it might be worth it.

Surprised it was a one way deal but it isn't my money so I don't care too much about that as long as they don't keep him up because of that but hard to imagine they would.
Not sure he offers a ton but gives a good effort and is a decent fit as the 13th forward if the team is set on having McGrattan play regularly.

Byron is also a centre and is skilled enough that he shouldn't have a problem filling in at RW also. Versatile player and why he would make a good 13th forward.

Because he signed his contract prior to New Year's, it will in fact slide if he plays in Adirondack

I think Byron's position on our team is the "filler", meaning he can slot pretty much anywhere in the lineup. I think he plays primarily LW, but can also play C and RW as well. He's perfectly capable of taking someone's roster spot. It's just more competition, just like Treliving stated.

Powerplay Quarterback

Fantastic news. Paul is an exciting player, really useful on the PK, and can do spot duty on any forward line. He could get some considerable ice time this year, depending on injuries. He has good hands. I look for him to blossom offensively this year, given the chance.

Even if he goes to junior as an overager, it won't slide.
For some historical perspective, that was the case for Turner Elson.

Good to see him back!
Now all the naysayers in the RFA thread can watch him for another year

This is the nail in the coffin for Reinhart and Granlund. Likely neither of them have a chance to make the team out camp. We will likely start the year with 1, or less likely 2 rookies on the roster for a rebuilding team with good forward prospects. Im not a big fan of that.
