Good news. I wonder if it's a two-way.

Good news- would this be a move by the flames to "ground" Paul?
Show that there was no interest in FA and make him come back to work even harder than he did (if thats even possible)

Good to see, Byron would be a great role model for Gaudreau. Small, but busts his ass out there and actually uses his size to his advantage.

How many times did we see Byron outmuscle a much larger defender? He had a great bounce back year after many, including myself, had written him off as a prospect.

1 way or 2 way contracts have no bearing on NHL waivers.

I feel a little fuzzy inside I'm happy with a 1 year deal.

Why? From a fan perspective, it makes no difference if it is 1 way or 2 way.

Good. Kid is a hard worker esp with his size and sets a good example for other players in the organization.

excellent - he is very deserving of being re-signed after his effort last year

I'd guess he probably got a 1-way contract based on the fact he had a strong arbitration case that the Flames didn't want to deal with.

Wouldn't be surprised if it came in as a 1yr $1M sort of contract.

Awesome! I guess there was no need to panic after all. A one year deal is great, hopefully Byron continues to improves and plays good enough to be offered a multi-year contract next year.

I agree. If we outgrow him and a prospect takes his spot, that's fine too. I like having him around to show by example and also to give the kids a good environment to develop in.

Happy news

A year ago he was barely brought up as part of the Regehr trade he was that far off the radar!

Definitely agree with the second part, his improvement in winning puck battles and overall strength with the puck was quite noticable.
