Cheering for Iggy to win with the Avs will be way easier than the scumbag Bruins.

Also of note to those who are done cheering for Iginla to win a cup; there is no need to apologize to Jarome in your post. Apologies are for...

A) people who will actually see/hear what you're saying and

B) care

You saying you're not cheering for him falls under neither a or b, so no lame apology needed.

I can't cheer for the Avs to win the cup after stealing MacKinnon and hiring a d-bag coach.

The luster of rooting for Iggy in the regular season has worn off. I do plan to get behind the Avs in the Playoffs though.

Within that 3 year window of Iginla's contract, sure.

How do people NOT see Colorado as a contender?

Centre depth - elite.
Goaltender - elite.
Winger depth - very strong
Defense - could use another top 4 d-man, likely a deadline day acquisition.

They're a damn good team and are on the upswing.

Defense (Missing 2 top pairing D, Erik Johnson is more of a 2nd pairing d-man on a elite team and Stuart is old), and from this years playoffs, they were an obvious step down from the contenders (Anahaim, LA, SJ, Chicago) and arguably a step down from tier 2 (St Louis, Detriot) as well.

(and they lost Statsney)

MIN outplayed them badly and should have won series in 4 or 5 games.

I think they over-achieved last year. They lost Stastny who was very good in the playoffs.

Agreed at centre, but they are pretty average in wingers and defence. Lots of old players (Iginla, Tanguay, Briere, Stuart, Hejda).

Varlamov is decent but he is coming off a career year and likely to regress.

This was a point brought up by one of my friends, what is the record for a team the year after their coach wins a Jack Adams? (e.g. teams that "over achieve" because of a good coaching, normally fall back to earth the next year) ..... answer, seems to be a mixed bag depending on who you see as contenders vs those who rebounded from last place top a playoff spot.

The list:
1998–99 Jacques Martin Ottawa Senators 1
1999–2000 Joel Quennevillea St. Louis Blues 1
2000–01 Bill Barberd Philadelphia Flyers 1
2001–02 Bob Francis Phoenix Coyotes 1
2002–03 Jacques Lemaire Minnesota Wild 2
2003–04 John Tortorellab Tampa Bay Lightning 1
2004–05 Not awarded due to the lockout.
2005–06 Lindy Ruff Buffalo Sabres 1
2006–07 Alain Vigneault Vancouver Canucks 1
2007–08 Bruce Boudreaud Washington Capitals 1
2008–09 Claude Julien Boston Bruins 1
2009–10 Dave Tippett Phoenix Coyotes 1
2010–11 Dan Bylsma Pittsburgh Penguins 1
2011–12 Ken Hitchcockd St. Louis Blues 1
2012–13 Paul MacLean Ottawa Senators 1
2013–14 Patrick Roy Colorado Avalanche 1

Personally I see Colorado making the playoffs this coming season but I think they're more likely to fight for a playoff spot then to fight for home ice advantage. They'll have to pick up probably 2 defenseman, looking at capgeek for 2015 UFA's its not a great looking list so they may have to ante up to get a top pairing defenseman as I dont see rentals

Isn't Iginla's wife a skier or something like that too? Colorado would be perfect

Tanguay - O'Reilly - Iginla

why didn't we think of that?

Lack of defensive depth and skill was exposed against Minnesota, but that forward group just added experience and proven goal scoring.

I would be concerned with the players the Avs added including Iginla, that they are slower and not well suited against a fast Western Conference.

We'll see, but I despise Roy and have never liked the franchise since they left Quebec City.
