This is good news. Canucks still won't be good enough to make the playoffs, but we don't want them slipping down far enough to have a good shot at Eichel or McDavid.

the defense is too good, would have needed to trade at least 2 of the top 4 d men to be close

Don't kid yourself you are close. A lot of the bottom feeders improved over the past week and the Canucks will sport a roster worse than they started last season with. This contract is fine though but Vrbata doesn't play center.
