Miller improves the Canuckleheads in net without question. That being said, it's hard not to improve on Lack and/or Markstrom as your #1. The improvement isn't enough to make them contenders but good enough to move 'em up the standings and out of the McDavid/Eichel sweepstakes.
I like this signing.

I think he meant "strombone", and there have already been several.

Ryan Lambert's take form Puck Daddy's website ( https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nh...154852827.html):
"Just as Ryan Miller did not offer any sort of appreciable upgrade over Jaroslav Halak in St. Louis last year, he does not do so over Eddie Lack in Vancouver either.
And yet here are the Canucks, slip-sliding down the Pacific Division and Western Conference standings, trading away a number of their best players, and giving an aging veteran $18 million over three years, and for what? Lack's in his mid-20s already and doesn't need mentoring or help. He posted a .925 save percentage at even strength last year. Miller? Just .920.
They're paying $6 million a year for a downgrade, unless of course Jim Benning has a time machine that can make it 2010 again. In that case, good deal."

Alright, I think Miller is overrated too ... but come one, this just isn't accurate.

Using the metric Lambert did, it is. Lack had a better ESSV% than Miller. However, that in isolation is a rather dumb way of comparing two players.

The way I see it, Miller & Lack is probably equal to or slightly worse than Luongo & Lack, but it's a significant upgrade from Lack & Markstrom.
Too bad for the Nucks, it's a big downgrade from Luongo & Schneider.

If you were going to use one number that's honestly the best one. But the sample size is too small.
Miller is a clear upgrade on Lack, IMO, just not one that was worth paying $6M to. The team actually would have been better off if they'd given that exact contract to Christian Ehrhoff. And yes, I recognize that would be too much money for Ehrhoff.

I agree, Horvat is not worth the cost of losing a Luongo/Schneider combo. Lou's contract was too long, but the tandem was a perfect match for the NHL.
Unfortunately, both Lou and Schneider were looking for the #1 spot, and sharing the crease wasn't in either's long term interests. Thus the whole goaltender controversy. It wouldn't have worked long term.

Miller is a downgrade on Luongo though so bottom line is that the Canucks opening day roster next season will be considerably worse than last years roster and that one wasn't far behind the Flames at the end of the day. There's a reason teams with Stanley Cup aspirations with question marks in net the Ducks, Sharks, Blues (were disappointed with his play), Penguins etc all passed on Miller as the answer.

3 years may not sound like a real long term, but it is an ETERNITY for a Vancouver goalie!
Miller sometimes throws his team under the bus. Vancity fans sometimes go full ######, and are merciless on goalies. This is going to be fun!
I fully endorse this signing.
