Experience is just another thing missing in Colorado besides a weak blueline...

You have still yet to state what point you're trying to make.
If it's that Colorado isn't a lock for the finals, I don't think anyone would disagree. To me, it sounds like you're trying to insinuate Colorado has no hope of winning the cup so you can underline your contention Iginla chose money over a chance at winning. If that's the case, why don't you just say that out-right?
Because the last two seasons Iginla went to an odds on cup favourite, and we saw how that worked out. There is nothing automatic about the process of trying to predict who's going to win the cup. If you took the top 3 or 4 odds on favourites (as he chose from the last two seasons) you have teams that have little to no to negative cap room at present anyway.
So why not chose a young team trending up? I think he took money and term - and - picked a good team that's getting better.

And regarding Statsney, I don't think that loss is as extreme as you're trying to make it out to be.
The Avs Centre depth is:
O'Reilly + Duchene + MacKinnon
I think they're going to survive somehow.

It's awesome how we have all gone from Avs haters (tanking) to Avs lovers (Iginla) now.
That:s excellent.
They are pretty obviously the next cup champions.

Yea because that whole part where an already good team tanked and picked up a player like MacKinnon didn't make them better at all.

Will Jarome Iginla Signing Prevent a 2014-15 Letdown for Colorado Avalanche?
Quote:
The raw numbers don't look great, and in each case, the Avs added a player who was older than the one he was replacing on the roster. Iginla is 37, as Briere will be early in October, and Stuart turns 35 in November. Those are three key players all in their twilight years, and all are reasonably high risks to fall off a performance cliff (though both Stuart and Briere are in the final years of their current deals, which minimizes risk).
|
Quote:
What does hurt is that Stastny played tougher minutes than Iginla—both saw high quality of competition, but Iginla had a pile of offensive zone starts while Stastny generally started in the defensive zone—and was a possession driver while Iginla relied heavily on finishing ability and had middling shot metrics.
Some might say "tomayto, tomahto," but Iginla's numbers are going to get worse if he isn't given the kind of favourable usage he had in Boston, and that means Stastny's defensive zone load will shift to someone else.
|
Quote:
Newcomer Briere wasn't exactly a dud in Montreal, but he was basically treading water in terms of both goals and Corsi and slipped down the Canadiens' lineup in the postseason; it's difficult to understand why the Avs preferred him to Parenteau.
The net result is that Colorado moved two critical five-on-five out-scorers for a pair of players who are going to need to shoot the lights out because they aren't likely to win the shots battle.

Wasn't Stastny playing on the wing? (At least I think it was him?) Anyways hell of a nice young center depth!

I was tolerant of people cheering the Bruins on because of the Iginla factor. I will not be tolerant of Avs bandwagon jumpers. Prepare for scorn.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I just cheer for Iginla to eventually win a cup. Don't really care about the teams he's on other than cheering for Iginla.
The other great thing is I believe there's approximately zero posters on CP that give a **** about your tolerance levels and subsequent scorn. So we have that going for us.

That Avs jersey doesn't suit Iginla. Makes me feel a bit sick to see him in that colour scheme.
That being said, I hope he finally wins his freakin' cup. It's getting embarrassing to see him on 3 different teams in the last 2 years.

love iggy. am extremely happy he didn't move to another canadian team.
Now i can have a 2nd favourite team i want to see win on any night when they aren't facing the flames. I have no shame in saying it. I'm a bandwagon jumper to the Avs.
There is lots to love about the Avs young core. Especially because it is compared to an oiler rebuild and looked at as the "right way" in that comparison (ie. Avs inherently = Edmonton no good).

Well, Iginla is my favorite player and I am undoubtly glad that he's still playing, however I am over the cheer for Iggy and make 2nd his team bandwagon. Sorry Iggy you are just another player now. I also doubt you play another game iwth a Flames jersey unless traded!
But goood luck buddy, may you lose to the Flames every time.

Not likely to happen as I HATE the Avs. I had no problem cheering against Iginla when he played for the Pens.

I wonder if the Avs will be able to get O'Reilly signed.
That's a huge factor for them, especially now with Stastny going to St. Louis.
It's not like he hasn't held out before.

As for Iggy, love him but he sure just made it a lot harder for me to cheer for him winning a Cup.

I find it surprising the Avs would bring in a big ticket like Iginla before signing O'Reilly.

I'm surprised that people are acting like its a sin that Iggy is on the Avs now. Yes, they were once a division rival, but not once have the Flames ever had a playoff series against them, and I don't see them as a hated rival the same way that I see Edmonton or Vancouver.
I don't think anyone is going to be cheering for the Avs over the Flames, but if they make the playoffs and the Flames don't, I won't have any issues wanting Iginla to go a long way.
Unless Iggy beats the crap out of one of the Flames in the regular season.
Gio vs Iggy fight will happen this season.

Still having trouble seeing a fit for Iginla there, other than the term and dollars offered to him.
They look like a playoff team but given the competition in the West, a long shot for the cup.

Coming from a buddy of mine in Tampa... Apparently Yzerman (in a staff meeting) noted that Iginla wanted to play in a cold climate, and wanted a region with good youth hockey for his kids. Minnesota was also in the mix, it seems.
As far as the topic du jour, I don't like the Avs, and I hate Pat Roy. But I'll hold my nose if it means Iggy gets the Cup.
