I was just wondering why so many of you (Canadians) are always posting stuff about the USA. I thought you don't like us. Please don't bite my head off. I was just wondering that's all.

The election affects us a great deal actually.
And American politics is much more entertaining.

AH ok, but how does the election effect you? Every politcian is entertaining, both of liars and always going after each other instead of stating the facts. Which drive me nuts.

Briefly... Elections in the US affect all countries, seeing as the US plays a dominant role in international relations. The importance is even greater since Canada and the US are neighbours. (that's a little simplified)

It is more interesting. And it does affect Canada in certain ways.
I don't hate Americans. My personal opinion is I would rather live in the US than in Canada for my own reasons. Gotta spread the love of hockey somehow

Well... we can talk about Martin being all buddy-buddy with Putin.
US elections is always a good source for discussion. (As the off-topic forum shows quite well!)

Becuase if Martin p*sses Putin off, that will reduce the amount that Putin will allow Canada to invest in Russia. And vise versa.

Take it easy... You don't need to care in the slightest!
What are we canucks supposed to talk about? Canadian politics are a little slower than US politics (esp. right now), and what transpired recently between Martin-Putin was about the most recent *big* Canadian politics news I could think of.
Simply a validation of your point. Perhaps I wan't clear enough earlier.

I hope they dont' get along. They are both in favour of the Kyoto Accord. If this thing ever gets ratified, Alberta's economy will take a major hit. The Kyoto Accord will make the NEP look like a walk in the park

I haven't had time to follow the election, but it does effect us (our largest trading partner by a wide margin)
however at the same time I don't think it's Canadian's position to be overly critical of the USA as they are a seperate country, and who are we to tell another country what to do?
Personaly, I don't hate Americans, I like to poke fun at them... but I take my own medicine as well (actually most of the medicine I swollow I give with my own spoon)

I wouldn't be too worried because this is actually something that Klein would never allow Alberta to have to follow. No matter what the Feds tried to tell us.

"Humans love a mystery" - Captain Jean Luc Picard.
That's it in a nutshell. If one guy were ahead 75% to 25%, you would see far fewer threads on it. Its tied 50-50 and you really don't know who might win which makes it interesting and enlivens the issues and partisanship.
And its important not just to the USA but the globe.

Yeah!
There is no way we should take steps to combat pollution, environmental degredation and global climate change if it would mean hurting Alberta's economy.
Way to be an inside-the-box, small-picture thinker

While I agree with you, saying Alberta should adhere to Kyoto will get you flamed on this board (at least by Albertans).
Kyoto will hurt Alberta's economy. Seems like a pretty good time to take a hit, I'd rather implement it while our economy is roaring as opposed to any other time.
Like I said, flame away :P

Seems like pretty inside-the-box thinking to believe that Kyoto is the answer. Any treaty which attempts to balance the needs of polar opposites to achieve some goal is necessarily a pretty lousy compromise.
But David Suzuki says it's the way to go, so it has to be!
Edit: Oops...OT...oh wait, there isn't a topic!!
