That's fair, I suppose. But it's just a crazy amount of years to give based on 1 year of great stats

Teams can no longer use compliance buyouts. They are gone if you haven't used them.

Better average than I was expecting but quite lengthy term.

Wonder if Green ends up being a cap dump to the Flames.
Not a terrible deal for Niskanen. Signed until he's 34.

The term will come back to haunt the Caps.

Flames should offer Wideman for Green straight-up to give them some cap breathing space.

He has a NTC and grew up in Calgary as a Flames fan IIRC. I'm guessing he would rather play elseware.

That would only save the Caps less than a million in space but hand cuff them with an additional 2 years. It doesn't make sense for Washington.

7 years for a guy that benefited from the Pens system and had 1 really good year. Weak year for offensive D men on FA day. Time will tell if he really has become a corner stone franchise player.

Not sure he deserved even over $4M a season contract but that's because he is the most sought after free agent defenseman, I guess i expect him to be overpaid. I thought he might get more than $5.75 a season but for only 5 years max.

Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive
Wings felt they made competitive offer for Niskanen and one team source said they would have given 7 years at $42 million.

Did the Wings get anyone today? That's back-to-back to-back to-back years they've pretty much struck out on free agency (back to Parise/Suter). I guess Alfredsson was a decent pick up, but signing Weiss to that ridiculous contract more than cancels that out.
It makes you wonder what Holland has been doing the past few years, and how much having Jim Nill by his side is putting a negative spin on matters.
