Yep, "most" analysts are on TV for good reason, and not posting on message boards.

We're still a few million short of the cap floor too.

"ZOMG JEFF FINGER NEW CONTRACT"
- Leafs needed to buy him out to retain & renew other Leafs. Absolutely different scenario.

Flames don't have anyone ready to make the jump -- Witherspoon is ready for 30ish games, not F/T.

People need to chill. He's a depth guy, good guy in the room and truculent enough. Within 3 years, we won't be in a position to spend to the cap yet so the money is completely irrelevant.
We likely carry 7 defencemen on the roster this year, which leaves a spot for a young guy as the 7th man.

Don't know tons about this guy but I agree with previous posts that the TSN guys make me feel better about this. A serviceable 5/6 guy. He is essentially a new, tougher Butler that is apparently well liked in the dressing room and will always stand up for his teammates. I don't know if I'm convinced on the dollar and term, but I don't think its a completely awful move for the flames.

Before this signing we were at 46M with with 9 forwards, 5 defence and both goalies. That doesn't include Colborne or Bouma for about 2M+ combined.

Wow...still hoping that $2.9M is total, not yearly. I would have had absolutely no problems offering the additional $700,000 to get Fayne!!

And that should conclude the Flames shopping spree today. Unless they make a trade or two.

Awesome signing, if only because it briefly crashed the server and now everyone is freaking out.

5M to sign Bouma, Colborne an extra forward and a 6th and 7th defenseman isn't completely out of the realm of possibilities (prior to signing a 6th defenseman for 3M). In any case they weren't over the floor...

They also probably want some leeway to make players, like say Wideman, tradable in the future. Being right at the cap floor could limit roster, callups, trades, etc. in a similar way as being at the cap ceiling does.

Brodie is RFA. Different types of player.

6 yr term, would be ideal for the Flames, considering we'd like to eat up some of his UFA years, but at this point, he has to earn the bump from his current bridge.

6 x 3.5-4million, is reasonable extension next summer. If he has another year like last year, that increases.

Good 6th Dman stands up for his team mates no push over. Just what the Flames need out of a 5-6 Dman

Why on this guy though? A #7 Dman who's just there to punch faces?

Would have rather the flames go after del zotto, or franson. Really don't see upside potential here. At least in my limited watching of the player.

Geez how much better is Fayne than Engelland? This is a Tambellini like signing, our Ben Eager if you will.
