Good for him. Always seemed like a pretty good guy and now he's got the term he was looking for. No way I wanted him in Calgary for 5 more years though.

I liked the guy, thought he would have been a good mentor to gaudreau, but not at that price.
I have ZERO problem with Burke not trading him for a late third round pick at the deadline.

"late 3rd round pick" <- just his whitewash after he couldn't make a deal. If he tried harder we could have got SOMETHING or our most tradable asset. Maybe not a high pick, but you can't tell me that wasn't bad asset management, because it was.

Totally disagree. You can't give in. 3rd rounder is less value than preserving reputation for future trades.

Disappointed on a number of fronts. I actually would have preferred he stay with the Flames. Thought he would have been a good presence in the locker room for the younger guys. Unfortunate he strung it along (although granted we only see what was in the media, there may have been more to it) instead of getting at least a pick.
Money's not horrible, although I'm happy he didn't sign here for 5 years. Glad he got is payday though, best of luck, Cammi!

It is very interesting that Cammalleri was able to cash in his last 20 games.
Up to the deadline he was mailing it in. Hudler was far far far better.
Cammalleri only played well when it turned out Stempniak was considered of equal value to him at the trading deadline.
I am so glad that the Flames won't be contributing the $25,000,000 to the Cammalleri retirement fund.

You should be putting the blame on Cammalleri. If he didn't play like hot garbage before the trade deadline the Flames would have received at least a 2nd rounder for him. I also believed he lied to the Flames on how he was seriously considering re-signing with the Flames in the off-season.

I think it is likely that Burke just ran out of time. Another twenty minutes and maybe a deal gets done. There were definitely teams that could have used Cammalleri that were left without a player after the deadline. Things went late and it just got backed up. No big deal.

Glad we didn't that term, 5 years is a too long. Good for him, guess he doesn't want the cup.

I'm not sure why some posters think he wasn't considering re-signing. He got a way better offer. Of course he took it.
Best of luck to Cammy. I think he will do fine in the east.

I don't begrudge a guy like Cammy going after $$ as opposed to chasing a cup. I'm sure he's observed Iggy working bonus laden deals and jumping teams to go to contenders and wind up not even getting close. Contract is a sure thing... Stanley Cup is still a very rare trophy to win.

If that goes on the resume as the biggest mistake, failing to get a 3rd round pick for Cammy, then I'd say he managed the club really well as GM.
No problem with missing out on the assets we would have got back in exchange for a chance to re-sign him. Now that it's gone the other way, sure getting anything would be better than nothing, but a pretty minor price to pay.

Listening in on Mike Cammalleri conference call, atm.

Why NJ? Cammalleri: "It's something I've been keen on for a while... I have a lot of respect for the way things are done there."
Kristen Odland @KristenOdlandCH
"Some of my closest friends are in management in Cgy.The hardest thing about that decision was the people...it was a constant conversation."

Cammalleri got a call from Iginla, who pointed out how cool it is going to be playing with Jagr.

I don't get it..suddenly the guy is a bad guy because he didn't sign with the Flames. The guy is trying to look after his future so he signed with NJ that offers 5 years. Maybe the Flames were offering 2-3 years so I don't see a problem with picking the other team. I am glad Cammy signed with the Eastern team so I can still cheer for him. I wish him luck!
