I like this signing because it doesn't really improve the team, it basically replaces Stempniak.

And cap hit is such that at some point you should be able to flip him for an asset at a deadline.
So far this is one of the more sensible contracts handed out today.

He's now the third highest paid forward on the Flames (behind Hudler and Jones, just ahead of Stajan).

I don't think its whining, everyone is just a bit over excited with all the trades. This does seem like a very safe contract, that will make the Flames better.
Also, over the years we got a bit deprived of developing our own players... so now it seems every contract which is not a superstar on the team is just taking space and preventing kids from developing.

Anyways, I hope Raymond will be a very good fit here!

Also we already know Byron was a good fit on the PK etc. so lets wait and see if Raymond does the same(and hopefully much much more).

Now all I have left to say is welcome to Calgary and I hope you enjoy your stay Mr. Raymond.

You should try coming back from a broken back and play in the NHL. He's got character like Batman!

Explain the danger in this contract. Whether he works out or not, what is the risk given the term and the dollars. I can't for the life of me see it?

Is it worrying that I read Bettman not Batman, but still agreed that it was a good example of character?

Love the persistence Raymond showed to sign with the Flames after the cold shoulder last camp.
Byron not re-signing leaves more room for our next wave of small elite players (Gaudreau, Baertchi).

Raymond is a bigger and more matured player that has similar attributes to Byron (Speed, Shot, PK).

If Raymond has the versatility to play both wings, this is definitely a great addition!

Good signing, the idea that this 'takes away' a spot from a younger player isn't true - if Gaudreau or Baertschi earn the spot it'll simply bump Raymond down the lineup or shift him to the other wing (which according to forecaster scouting report he can)

I wouldn't say I am happy about the trade but I am not really upset. If we are overpaying him it is by 600k per year. It wasn't crazy term either so.. not a big deal.
Also, maybe the hard work of rest of the team will rub off on him.

Good deal. Low risk with potentially high reward. The term is also short enough that if it doesn't work, it won't be an anchor.
