Haha. Brutal player gets paid because of rep that he got playing for a good team in Chicago. Bad back, bad knees, slower than Smid and $5.5M per year for a 3rd line center.

Really hope the Flames stay totally out of this insanity. Most of the contracts signed today are the buyout candidates 2-3 years down the road.

Actually this one is by far the worst, Pouliot also terrible, a couple others questionable possibly but overall I'm actually quite surprised how reasonable everything has been so far.

I'm sure Florida is well aware that they're overpaying. They're just desperate to add to what was the least inspiring lineup in the league last season.

Obviously they need more than they've acquired so far, but what they had was so dry, it was depressing.

Early candidate for the Finger or Clarkson award

Perhaps we should call it the Clarkson Finger

When he's healthy he's not that bad (except terrible at faceoffs). If the Panthers were going to get anyone they have to overpay so you can see where they are coming from, but yes he's overpaid by about $2M/year because of his 'winner' rep.

Contracts like this are one of the reasons that Florida never seems to get better. Im suprised Garth Snow wasnt in on this.

Bolland will be making 2.5m more than Cammy after 5 years... Wow.

Sorry, but MacT has him beat. At least Bolland is a proven playoff performer. Pouliot is being only paid 500k less for the same term, and is a much worse player.

Pouliot is being paid 1.5M less. It's not even a comparison.

Bolland is a superior player, and plays great in the playoffs. As long as his injury concerns have been resolved it's a much better deal than Pouliot's.

Except he will not get a chance to to play in the playoffs.

In that horrible conference? I think they have a shot with Luongo in net for the entire season (and Ekblad on the backend).

If anyone knows Bolland, it's Dave Tallon.

The hate on him, and Clarkson comparisons are unfounded.
He's a 2 way center, with top 9 versatility, 2 years younger, plays some of the hardest minutes, and is good for 20 goals every season (pro-rated).

Clarkson cashed in on an anomaly, and his only advantages are durability, and fighting.

If Bolland inked the same contract with the Flames, I'd be content with it.
You overpay some, for Free Agency, and I'd take him over Stajan (outside of the emotional attachment of his past season with us).

I must've missed the memo declaring David Boland as a top player. Stupid contract

Not when you consider that team desperately lacked leadership and character, along with a guy who can play in all situations down the middle. Bolland is probably worth $4 million, but the Panthers needed to overpay some to get him. He's going to be a good fit for a team that just got rid of their captain in Jovanovski. I think it's a great move for them, especially when you consider they still have $21 million in cap space AFTER all the signings today.

I would pass on both but I would much rather have Bolland at this deal than Pouliot on his.

Would also prefer Bolland over Cammy so not surprised he got paid more.

Still the 5 year deals have clearly been the worst ones given out today especially when compared to what others are getting .
