Kinda bizarre, maybe he is looking for a good year to re-establish his value then cash in next year?

Guess he thinks he can parlay playing for a better team into another long, rich contract next year.

Why not? He had a bad year last season and going to Pittsburgh playing with Crosby, Malkin and others. If he plays well this season he can get better contract in next year UFA.

Going to be 32 in a couple days. Next off-season he'll be 33 so still young enough for a multi-year contract if he has a decent season.
Had the luxury of taking a risk signing a 1 year deal considering he'll be receiving paychecks from Buffalo until 2028.

Lifetime Suspension

This actually bugs me. Why on earth would you not take the much larger term for more money you could have had, Christian? I guess he wanted to play in PIT really badly.

Nice cheap replacement for Niskanen. Easy decision to make when you know you have a nice supplementary income for the next 14 year's.

I year trail. Decent money for the Pens. Low risk gamble that could prove big for both player and team.

Bargain for the Pens. Obviously weren't planning on bringing Niskanen back.

Maybe he wants a Cup? He's going to be getting paid till what, 2028 or something off his previous contract? At this point money isn't a huge issue.. Solid signing for the Pens, great replacement for Niskanen.

I really hoped that Treliving would have found a way to get both Ehrhoff and Orpik to boost up our defense. Both quality players and could have been had for reasonable dollars. We've got the cap space, we've got fast young forwards. Flames could have used these two guys well.

He's got a lifetime worth of cash coming in from Buffalo, so I doubt it really matters. Probably just wanted to play in Pitt.
