No deals and a really weird first round pick. Not sure why MU picked some nobody. Can't say this draft has looked good for the Raptors.

Ujiri pulled a Feaster and Jankowskied the Raps!
Don't have to be a Bluejay to swing for the fence in Toronto.
Like Janko though, I hope it works out in a few yeas time but on paper, this looks bad!

To top it off they sell the 3rd round pick for cash. What on earth like they need money.

But it's a good gamble and they gave up nothing to take the chance.

I agree. Good move for both sides. I'm sure it'll be a good thing for Salmons as well but he simply didn't fit in. Moreso laziness than anything but it's good that the weakest link is gone.

I like this use of Salmons better than the Prince+22nd overall deal. This gives them a bit more salary to work with, and I think Nogueira has really solid potential, provided his knees hold. Williams is okay for a year, the key is that his contracts expire next year, coinciding with Hayes, Fields, and Johnson all expiring, giving the Raptors the flexiblity to either sign a big free agent next summer, or go after a big contract from a team looking to shed salary.

Michael Grange is apparently reporting that the Raptors are on the verge of signing Lowry for over $12M/year. This was reported last night. However, Cleveland just re-signed Irving for 5 years, $90M(!), and I'm wondering if Lowry think he can get more. $12M for the guy is more than enough.

I'll take that $12M.. Only time we will get that $12M is if we win the lottery. If he turn that down he is greedy. Why did I even stopped playing basketball in the first place?? I guess i was born in the wrong decade and the wrong country.

I feel pretty confident that he's going to resign with the Raptors later today. Should be starting at $11 or $12, but I'm not sure if it'll be 4 or 5 years. Sounds like that might be the only holdup. I think a partially-guaranteed 5th year is a viable solution for both sides.
Houston and Miami seem like the only other major suitors, and Houston is dependent on a sign-and-trade, while Miami doesn't have the cap space to make any big offer (assuming that reports of Bosh and Wade taking $11 million a year is BS, as their agent has said).

I'd be very, very surprised if Lowry weren't back at this point. He apparently has no interest in Houston (even if they want him), and Miami cannot possibly make a good enough pitch to draw him (take a lot less, maybe win a ring if we avoid the Spurs!). I do think it'll be 5 years but that's fine, a slight overpayment for a guy who seems happy here.

Miami is forced to improve in order to keep Lebron and crew. By virtue of that, they're a threat. Big tv contract and highest seat prices will allow them to go into the luxury tax threshold if they want to. Having said that, when you're the premier PG free agent available in the offseason, there have to be more than a handful of teams that want you behind the scenes. I'm sure there are a few teams who can clear out cap space in order to bring him in too. I really think he's looking at Irving's ridiculous contract and having second doubts about signing for 60% of that. We'll see.

If they lose Lowry they might as well fold the franchise...they have a history of need being able to keep their stars or get anyone of value in their prime to play for them
They always have to draft some European because nobody else will come to TO...did they really sell their draft pick?

Reports out there that Lowry has re-signed. Wicked news. 4 year/48 mill.

Nothing to be upset about at all with those terms. He's probably slightly overpaid at 12/yr but considering how amazing he was down the stretch/in the playoffs there was no question he earned it. Next year will possibly be the turning point of his career, will he come in lean and ready to take the team on a run at the ECF or will he pudge up again and play hero ball. Should be interesting.

The Heat keep on missing their guys. Good on Masai getting him locked up to a totally acceptable contract, a good one even.

I have to admit that I'm glad they signed him and I'm openly questioning if it's the right move. Yes they made the playoffs last year and it was fun to see them get there. Yes they have the same team back albeit perhaps missing one of GV or PP. They will be competitive in the East.
On the other hand have they improved over last year? Other than the natural progression of the young guys the answer is NO. They still look like a team going nowhere in terms of championship aspirations.
Maybe that isn't their goal though at the moment. They want to put butts in the seats and be entertaining. They hope their young core group improves and then they use the cap space that will open up to grab a star.
Two or three years down the road they make a serious run.
Hope that's the plan because this signing along with the eventual signing of GV or PP or squeezing both in means they are pretty well stuck going nowhere fast for the present.

^ All true but....I think you underestimate how much the Eastern Conference sucks. And it could lose LeBron and Melo and maybe even Bosh and Wade, making it even worse. The Raptors can make a legit claim as one of the top 3 teams in the East. And then you get to the Finals and anything can happen. The Raps are in a good spot right now.

While they haven't done anything to improve, I like the fact that Masai took a flyer on Caboclo. I think it shows that Masai understands that this team isn't close to wining quite yet. Caboclo might or might not turn out, but its nice to see that we are taking the risk on a guy with so much potential.
It's certainly nice to have a GM that isn't concerned about winning as many games as possible and adding pieces that would hurt the team 2-3 years down the road. This team should be best in the Atlantic again (if Melo decides to move), and they are still building towards the future. I like it.
