The good news is it looks like the Oilers haven't changed their ways. It appears they've pencilled in the newly drafted kid into the lineup without having to prove himself.

Isn't Purcell basically David Jones for the Oilers now? Almost 30 winger, had a couple good seasons, got a contract and is trying to prove himself again

I can't think of any reason why Tampa would buy him out. That can't be true...

I just puked in my mouth after reading that.

Sorry, but they couldn't be further apart. Sureloss provides this forum with updates most people want to hear. Not Leafsnation bull#### speculation that is pulled from thin air to try and better his cousin's and his employer's hometown team.

Yeah, really.

Gagner: 4.8 cap-hit, signed through 2015, owed 10M in salary
Purcell: 4.5 cap-hit, signed through 2015, owed 9M in salary

It costs them more to buy out Gagner. Unless there's a pick involved, it makes no sense at all.

If the buyout thing is true, I don't think Yzerman has any idea what he's doing. Maybe the Flames dodged a bullet given the Yzerman to Calgary GM rumors

Erik Erlendsson ‏@erlendssonTBO 1m
OK, premature tweet by somebody in the organization, Gagner being put on waivers is incorrect (at least for now)

I doubt they would make this deal to buy out Gagner. They are probably bringing him in mostly as a powerplay specialist.

I like the move for the Oilers. Should work out well for Lightning as well.

Purcell isn't anything special but I didn't think they would get anything much more than that for Gagner.

Younger than age 26 at the time of buyout, 1/3 the remaining value
Age 26 or older at the time of the buyout, 2/3 the remaining value
Gagner is 24, Purcell is 28.

Cybulski: "We don't expect you to be as good as Kopitar."
MacT: "Yes we do."

And now, barring further moves, they're already pencilling the kid into the line-up?

Oilers gonna Oil.

LOL post by Lightning fan on HF;

Quote:
Tampa fan here. He was absolutely god awful for the last 2 seasons He's soft dosent work hard can't win a board battle to save his life obviously avoided contact. Dragged down every line he was on yet still continued to receive top 6 mins and pp time. Year before he was great but it's looked like he's cashed it in after getting a big contract. What's ganger like I don't think we will keep him.
This trade puts a lot of pressure on the German kid to not only make the team but play at a top 6 level. So their center depth is RNH, Draisaitl, Hendricks, Gordon? Yikes that's pretty pathetic.

Kinda funny that in his 7 years with the Oil, Gagner didn't once manage a 20 goal haul. Monahan, another #6 overall, did it in his first NHL season. Man the Oils drafting sucks.
