So happy... outside Ekblad, he's the guy I wanted!
That being said, maybe he gets a game or 2, but I really think straight back to the OHL for a year. No point in rushing him at all.

Mostly just know the player from reports but really pumped about this pick.
Quote:
NHL Central Scouting’s David Gregory:
“He plays the kind of game you think cannot be sustained for a whole season because it’s a high-energy game and compete game at all ends of the ice. He ends up playing that game for the whole year and has led his team. He just never stops, and put that with the skill package he has and how well he thinks the game, he’s pretty much a top-notch player.”

If he earns his 9 days. Let him and then send him back to the OHL and let him shine at the World Jr tournament.

That was still better than Jeff Shantz: 1st line centre. We've been through tough times as Flames fans...

I remember watching Gilmour when he was with the Flames and what he brought every night. I'm really hoping Bennet lives up to the Gilmour comparisons and develops into a similar like player.

Great to get him and I think he will be awesome but he needs to put on weight and with the centers we have, and need to sort out, unless he has an unreal camp he should go back to junior without the 9 games.

I want, demand to see this kid do a pull up at training camp lol.
Now for the rest of the draft lets go defense lol, BPA!
Don't think Bennett will play next year for the flames. Could he? Yes, needs a year or two to develop and get stronger. Man him on the farm with Gaudreau Poirier Klimchuk Granlund Sven Reinhardt etc, they will be lights out. Minor system is stacked at forward. High skilled forwards! So much fun it will be. Ortio in net? Awesome, yet we need d men now!

Remember how sweaty Gilmour got, he left everything out on the ice, if this kid does the same I will be pretty damn happy.
I wanted the German but now he might as well be dead to me, Edmonton will ruin him guaranteed!

Even if he plays lights-out in camp I think he ought to go back to junior. He's one of the younger players in the draft this season & he's still physically undeveloped. It's a no-brainer...
Send him to Kingston with a Rich Hesketh training regime & let him dominate the OHL.

I liked Treliving's response on The Fan when asked about Sam making the team in the fall, there was no hesitation about his feeling that Bennett will be going back to junior unless he blows their socks off at camp.
"They're all going back. Everybody's going back to junior."

Tempering expectations ... I just think that Bennett should play another year in the OH so that he can further his development. We are in no rush.

I believe that he'll play the nine then go down, but then that makes it feel like Calgary rushed Monahan. I guess everyone develops at their own rate. The more appropriate question I think though is, 'if Bennett impresses similar to how Monahan did, will they keep him up?'
I suppose Bennett is a young pick, though wasn't Monny too?

Nope, Monahan turned 19 the first week of the season. Bennett is young enough to be 18 the whole 14/15 season.
Bennett will have to have some kind of silly, crazy,######ed,truculent and unreal 9 games NOT to go back to Kingston under this regime.

I think it has more to do with having so many exciting prospects to watch for next year that it doesn't feel like a must watch this time. It's like a kid at Christmas is ok waiting to open a present because he just opened so many and has a ton of cool toys to play with first. If there was no Johnny, Monahan or Granlund to watch next year if guys that number to be much higher

One has to assume that is why Treliving came out and made the comments that he did about allowing players to "over ripen" before coming to the NHL. That kind of talk helps everyone get the idea in their head that we are not going to rush prospects to the big club under the current management.
Then throw in the lack of a pull up at the combine and one has to think that some extra time maturing is a good idea to avoid injuring our prized prospect.
Also, when you think about the fact that we already have Stajan, Backlund and Monahan on the team, it makes it easier to think that Bennett will go to the OHL. Otherwise, to make room we would need to trade Stajan right after extending him (and they would probably want to do that before his NTC kicks in on Tuesday).
Sending him down makes sense. If he gets his 9 games, I think it will be harder to send him down.
