I don't get taking an overager who was passed over twice and came to your development camp last year.

Um, ok. I don't get it but I guess there are worse ways to spend a 7th round pick.

I'm most excited about Sam Bennett, Adam Ollas Mattson, and Hunter Smith.

It's a 7th rounder in a weak draft, you have to spend it on someone. This also gets the Flames his rights for two years. If he went undrafted, they'd have to sign him now or hope he doesn't sign somewhere else this summer and will sign with you after his overage year.

Take a look at how Palat did this year in the NHL. (He was passed over in two drafts and then taken in the 7th round)

Well, some generally good picks, some interesting ones as well. Before the draft, I would certainly have preferred Dmen at 34 and 54, but I'm happy with McDonald and Smith, both could have great value in the future. Gives us some great prospects in the juniors over the next few years. Bennett, McDonald, Smith, Hickey, Mattsson, Carroll. Will keep an eye on them all with great interest.
One things for sure, none of them look NHL ready, so the only real addition to the franchise after this draft is Bollig. An NHL Dman or 2 and we'll be ready to go I think.

Nathan Walker, the first Australian ever drafted, finding out the Capitals picked him while at a bar.

I'm just a little pissed about no RHD, which is our biggest need and there were plenty.
But I'd give the draft a C. Bennett was great, MacDonald was okay but many people I'd rather have. Hopefully Smith becomes a Kyle Clifford or Dweight King but again I'd rather have Kase or Magyar at RW or other RHD. At 64Hickey is good but LH, we need righties (I know I'm sounding like a broken record). Bollig trade is meh. Prefer Thomas over him but. I like Mattsson and not sure aboutCarrol

After Winnipeg chose not to sign him, allowing him to re-enter the Draft, Lukas Sutter was picked by the Islanders 200th overall.

They did that with Nick Ebert too a year or two ago. Seems to be their thing.

Seems like a good strategy for a 7th rounder. Sometimes players can have a bad year, but aren't bad players. There was something there that made people look at them as being 1st rounders.
