Uruguay are going to get dirty now.

It's funny listening to English commentators and from that we can see why England fails.
Rodriguez scores a great goal in the first half and the commentator is astonished. "Audacious" "Ridiculous" "Who would try that in a game like this". Obviously not the English.

These guys try things like this all the time and if it goes into row Z instead of into the net they don't get laughed at like the commentator would have if that shot failed.

Then I listen to British talk shows and they don't get why England can't produce a Messi, Ronaldo or Neymar. Because those players get laughed at in England for doing anything that may look silly.

oh and 'the lottery of penalty kicks' is another one. The English will never get it.

Rodriguez has been better than Neymar.

It looked like neither Brazil nor Chile ever practice spot kicks. Just some awful efforts there period. Soft shots down low either straight down the middle or close to it.

Don't watch club soccer only international so a bit naive about this but penalty kicks seem just like free throws in basketball - can't understand why these aren't almost automatic.

Why are players still kicking it low, soft and right at the keeper? Have your 5 designated guys who practice them religiously and pump them high and hard. Unstoppable shot like that one Chile player did.

Couple of reasons

Fatigue and pressure: those players were very tired and there was just a little pressure on them

and secondly, there are very little margins kicking a round ball. That unstoppable shot by the Chilean player could have easily gone over the net. The last Chile shot that hit the post wasn't dis-similar from it.

Brazil v Colombia is going be quite the match up. Both are even on offence but Colombia is playing better D and keeps their formation intact.

That was a perfect shot, but going high is the riskiest shot.

When you try to hit it that hard it's hard to keep the ball down and many go over or into the bar; they're also easier for the keeper so save if you only get it mid height (goalie leaps sideway, but not side and down as in a hard low shot)

Yes I did, and hence my view that Chile was the better team for the majority of the game. Brazil had flashes of brilliance, but those didn't last long. They were saved from elimination by two solid goalposts.

I thought Chile and Brazil were very evenly matched. Brazil was somewhat more skilled, which lead them to controlling the starts of halfs and the overtime, but Chile conserved their energy better or had better stamina, and started to control things once the clock ticked on.

I'm sure Columbia took notes. They've been looking good the whole tournament and looked even better against Uruguay. Brazil will have their hands full again. Should be another good game.

I'm not saying chile didn't play well but to say Brazil escaped or got lucky is ludicrous. Brazil dominated in chances and Chile had 3 shots. If anything chile is lucky the garbage ref made erroneous call and Brazil didn't cash in.

Columbia will be a challenge but I think chile was the bigger hurdle to get through.

this says a lot more about your thinking than 45 million peoples way of thinking...I wish i could judge every Canadian so easily and completley from a George Strombolopolous show like that!!

Three comeback wins by Holland now at this tournament. That has only been done once before (Germany, 1970). Hard to say how far they go from here, but Van Gaal has developed real cohesion in the squad. That hopefully puts to bed the old and lazy analysis of the Dutch being a collection of individuals.
