Seriously Bollig does not have 2nd or 3rd line upside like Simon did around the same age. Westgarth is probably a more appropriate comparison for Bollig's potential upside.
I clarified my statement a few posts later, I'm not saying he'll produce the way Simon did just that on the spectrum of "tough guys who can also play" he's closer to Simon than PL3.

I can hardly contain my excitement for next season.

Flames are back to being the Flames I've always known, after a very unFlamey interlude under Feaster.

IMO, this direction makes it even more likely one or both of Hudler and Wideman are gone. With Wideman being the most obvious guy to go.

I see him like a bigger Bouma (7g, 7a last year) that hits and fights more. He's not strictly a face puncher!

Doubtful...especially being that the Flames are still 13 million away from the cap floor.

Wideman isn't that soft. I would say he brings more grit than guys like Butler an Brodie. He might not fight but he when he was paired with Smid they can clear the crease well. And Wideman is a decent hitter

Not as good as Simon, but better then Westgarth.
I would love to see it. I certainly don't think he is useless, I just would rather have seen us use the pick and try to get this type of player a different way even if we had to wait.

He is 27 going on 28 and played 82 games once in his career so far, not to mention that isn't a stat to hang your hat on. A lot of players play 82 games in one season and still never amount to much.

I also don't get the argument some people are using that because if Chicago signed him for 3 years at a low salary, he must be good. Chicago is a top heavy team with cap problems. Of course the are going to have to play scrubs somewhere in the line-up. The cap pretty much assures that veteran teams with a lot of star players will have to have some beggars in the bottom 6.

At 83 you are a lot more likely to get a career minor leaguer then anything. In the last 15 years there has not been a player selected at 83 who has made any sort of contribution in the NHL. The odds are that whoever the Flames would have taken will not get anything more then the proverbial "cup of coffee" in the NHL.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/d...hp?position=83

Bollig is not yet a fully developed player so to me this is a hope for hope trade. He sure din't impress with his play in the play offs but the pro scouts have to see some potential there. I'm sure most of us were hoping for trades much bigger then this one, just another reason to dump on this one.

Truly the only problem I have with this is Chicago needed to clear cap space and we gave them a third. I feel like it should have been a 6th for Bollig and a third.

Like the trade. Bollig can actually contribute with a regular shift. He is more of a Bouma/Prust than he is a goon.

I take that over self righteous bleating.

The guy is insufferable. I've never once seen him reexamine his position or comments. I have better arguments with my dog.

Who was on the board that we could have taken at 83?

I dont get how people are up in arms over this trade.

If you draft someone in the 3rd round and they become Brandon Bollig you would be ecstatic, anything greater than that is pure gravy.

So no, a third is not expensive. It gets you an NHL player.

Hes young, hes effective, hes proven and hes fairly cheap and even if he wasnt its not like the Flames are cash strapped.

Not to mention, as someone else said, the Chicago Blackhawk's coaching staff found him reliable and steady enough to offer 10 minutes a night to.

Yes, he got traded, but thats management's call not the coaching staff's, and on top of that the Hawks were probably expecting a $72M+ salary cap, not $69M.

Probably Adam Ollas Mattsson.

EDIT: Yup, on the radio Button just said they had him rated a lot higher than they got him.

I like Bollig a lot. No problem with this deal. As others have said, if you pick someone at 83 you're pretty happy if he turns into an NHL'er at some point. Bollig already is, and is a useful player.

Feasted wasted a 5th on a minor league goon who retired shortly after being dealt. Anaheim used a 5th on Tim jackman, who I like, but who is no Bollig.

Bollig's value is a 3rd.

Great trade for Calgary.

Jackman's value was zero. His last season with us was embarrassingly bad, like Homer Simpson in a boxing match.

So would you trade a potential to pick up players such as Brodie and Gaudreau who were picked in the 4th round for Bollig
